Breaking ground for the remarkable Bertikow battery storage project: on Tuesday we proudly joined ENERTRAG and other project partners for the official ceremony.

With a planned capacity of 200 MW / 840 MWh, Bertikow will show how battery storage can do more than balance energy supply and demand. Equipped with SMA’s grid-forming technology, the system is designed to actively support grid stability and resilience, an increasingly important role as renewable energy continues to grow.

It’s great to see Bertikow taking shape alongside ENERTRAG and all partners involved. We’re excited to contribute to the project and look forward to taking the next steps together.

Yesterday, we had a great day at Schuby, Schleswig-Holstein, where we joined ECO STOR to celebrate the upcoming technical commissioning of the 103.5 MW / 238 MWh battery storage project. It now has successfully completed construction and grid connection and is entering the next phase on its way to commercial operation.

With its grid-forming and black-start capability, projects like Schuby show the important role large-scale battery storage can play in tomorrow’s energy system. As the share of renewables grows, storage not only provides flexibility, but can also support grid stability and resilience through advanced grid services.

We are proud to contribute to this forward-looking project and to drive the transition towards a resilient, renewable energy system together with ECO STOR.

Strong partnerships are the foundation of the energy transition.

SMA Italia welcomed approximately 50 solar partners to Molfetta to discuss market trends, strategies, and the future of solar energy. During the event, we presented our latest solutions for the residential, commercial, and storage sectors and visited successful local storage projects.

The venue could hardly have been more fitting: Molfetta, the historic port city on the Adriatic coast of Apulia, has been synonymous with trade, networking, and exchange for centuries. These are precisely the values that shape our collaboration with our solar partners.

In addition to professional discussions, there was plenty of time for networking: a group padel tournament fostered team spirit, dynamism, and lots of energy. 🎾

Many thanks to all our partners who made these two days a success. Together, we are shaping the future of energy.

A future-ready hybrid system for Sabu Island

Sabu Island is now powered by a state-of-the-art SMA hybrid system that operates fully automatically, integrates a large-scale PV plant, and keeps the genset operating above its minimum load for stable and efficient system performance.

As Indonesia’s first Sunny Island X-ready BESS platform, the system is designed to anticipate future needs by enabling battery and PV expansion, diesel-off operation during periods of high renewable generation, and load shifting when system dynamics, fuel prices, or reliability and efficiency requirements change.

SMA Altenso contributed proven expertise in system design, commissioning, and optimization to ensure smooth and reliable operation.

The hybrid energy system generates 2,369 MWh of electricity annually, saving approximately 634,333 liters of fuel and avoiding around 1,694 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

Today, together with our customers, partners and guests, we officially opened our SMA Gigawatt Factory – a major milestone for the energy infrastructure of the future.
