A three-phase, bidirectional energy meter with integrated energy management that enables you to monitor electricity consumption and generation and manage loads via KNX.

What does this new device offer?

🔹 High-precision measurement: up to 85 A or 800 A, depending on the version, using the supplied split-core current transformers. Maximum active-energy measurement error of 1%, including current transformer error, according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
🔹 Comprehensive energy monitoring: measures active, reactive and apparent power, active and reactive energy, voltage, current, power factor and frequency, alongside power-quality parameters such as total harmonic distortion (THD) and load imbalance.
🔹 Intelligent load management: helps optimise solar self-consumption and enables load management based on dynamic electricity tariffs, using updated prices received via KNX.

🤖 Very interesting! 5/7 – AI and ETS: Describe what you need and let AI help build it!

One of the most exciting possibilities discussed at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 was the integration of Artificial Intelligence directly into ETS projects.

ETS apps with an MCP server can connect an open ETS project to a compatible AI assistant.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) provides a standard way for AI assistants to interact with the tools and functions exposed by the app.

🔧 One interesting example is KNX-MCP, developed by Gerald Docenko and currently available free of charge in the KNX shop.

It allows AI assistants to analyse project information and perform authorised operations directly in ETS.

Imagine simply asking:
💬 "Create switching, dimming-value and status group addresses for these meeting rooms."
And having the assistant help generate the required structure!

🔐 What I particularly like is the control over permissions. Each operation can be allowed, require confirmation or be blocked. A read-only mode is also available.

This provides a promising foundation for tools that can reduce repetitive work in KNX projects. The AI demonstrations we also saw from ProKNX made that potential even more tangible.

💡 My prediction: Structured text templates will increasingly help generate substantial parts of ETS projects — from room structures to group addresses and connections.

Of course, this is my vision of where the technology could lead. The integrator's expertise will remain essential for defining requirements, validating the logic and checking the results.

An exciting direction for the future of KNX engineering! 🚀

💡 Very interesting! 4/7 – Cloud Interfaces: Remote KNX commissioning made easier!

Another highlight from Michael Critchfield's ETS6 presentation at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 was the demonstration of KNX Cloud Interfaces.

What impressed me most was how seamlessly ETS can move between local and remote connections.
🔹 When working on site, ETS can use a direct local connection.
🔹 When working remotely, a compatible interface can be accessed through the manufacturer's cloud infrastructure.
🔹 The interface's KNX serial number helps identify the appropriate cloud service, with much of the connection process handled automatically.

🚀 ETS6.4 includes the "Use KNX cloud interface" option in its automatic connection settings, enabling remote access without the need for a VPN, provided a compatible interface and service are available.

🔐 Security remains essential. Access must be authorised, typically using an access token. The demonstration showed how tokens can be entered and remembered for future connections.

Token management depends on the manufacturer. For example, Atios AG provides this functionality through its web interface.

💡 For me, the advantage is clear: less network configuration, easier remote commissioning and more convenient technical support, without having to manage complex VPN connections.

Another practical improvement that can make a real difference to the daily work of KNX integrators! 👏

⚡ Sometimes the smartest innovations are the ones that make installation easier!

At the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026, Weinzierl Engineering GmbH presented some very interesting KNX actuator features.

What particularly caught my attention were several practical improvements that can simplify installation, commissioning and maintenance.

🔹 Integrated supply distribution

Instead of individually wiring the 230 V supply to every relay channel, the actuator provides internally bridged supply connections, reducing wiring and making installation considerably easier.

🔹 Zero-cross switching

The relays switch around the AC zero crossing, helping reduce electrical stress on the contacts and potentially extending their service life.

🔹 Convenient output control

Individual channels can be controlled directly, even without KNX bus voltage, providing additional flexibility during commissioning and servicing.

🔹 Additional functions through ETS

Integrated configuration and control functions offer installers even more possibilities.

💡 These may sound like relatively small improvements, but anyone who regularly works with electrical cabinets knows how valuable simpler wiring and practical commissioning functions can be.

Reducing installation time while improving reliability is always a welcome combination.

💡 Very interesting! 3/7 – Multi Linking: A simple ETS trick that can save a lot of time!

Another practical highlight from Michael Critchfield's presentation at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 was Multi Linking, available in ETS6.4.

Unlike the semantic Smart Linking app, Multi Linking allows you to connect multiple group addresses and communication objects sequentially in a single operation.

🔧 Imagine you have three group addresses and three corresponding communication objects. ETS can link the first pair, then the second, then the third — all in one action!

How does it work?

1️⃣ Select the group addresses and copy them.
2️⃣ Select the corresponding communication objects.
3️⃣ Press Alt+V to link them sequentially.

Alternatively, you can use Alt + drag & drop for the same result. Shift allows you to select a continuous range, while Ctrl lets you select individual entries.

⚠️ The crucial detail is the order! The sequence must match the same functions on both sides: switching commands with switching objects, values with values, and feedback with feedback.

It's worth checking the resulting connections, especially when different manufacturers organise their communication objects differently. ETS may skip incompatible pairs, but matching data sizes don't necessarily mean matching functions.

💡 For projects with many repetitive connections, this simple feature can save considerable time and reduce manual work.

📱 Commissioning a KNX installation from your smartphone — without carrying your laptop around!

One of the most impressive practical demonstrations at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 came from EisBär (Alexander Maier GmbH).
Anyone who has commissioned a large KNX installation knows the challenge of moving around a building with a laptop while programming devices, assigning physical addresses and checking connections.

💡 EisBär presented a much more convenient approach!

Through an ETS extension and a smartphone interface, installers can access their ETS project directly from their phone.

The workflow is particularly interesting:
🔹 Scan a QR code generated by the ETS extension to access the project.
🔹 Navigate through a graphical representation of KNX lines and devices.
🔹 Assign physical addresses and initiate device programming from the smartphone.
🔹 Scan KNX Secure FDSK QR codes using the phone's camera.

The important detail is that the smartphone doesn't replace ETS. ETS remains responsible for programming and maintains the connection to the KNX installation via KNXnet/IP, USB or even a remote connection.

This means ETS could stay running on a computer in the office while the integrator moves freely around the building with just a smartphone! 🚀
Another excellent feature is the graphical representation of group-object connections, allowing installers to visualise sensors, actuators and feedback paths in an intuitive diagram instead of traditional tables.

A solution with great potential to save time during commissioning, troubleshooting and training.

Definitely one of my personal highlights! 👏

📡 LoRa wireless devices fast enough for lighting control? Allorado has a very interesting approach!

One of the most interesting demonstrations at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 came from Allorado, presenting its KNX IoT router and coupler, together with the Alba gateway and wireless device integration.

What particularly caught my attention was their approach to LoRa-based wireless communication.

LoRa is traditionally associated with long-range communication, but not necessarily fast response times. Excellent for many IoT applications, but less suitable for functions like lighting control, where an immediate reaction is expected.

💡 Allorado demonstrated a different approach: its wireless devices can operate in a fast communication mode, trading some range for significantly faster response times.

According to the demonstration, this enables reactions within milliseconds, opening up interesting possibilities for:
🔹 Wireless light switches and sensors
🔹 Remote control of actuators
🔹 Retrofit building automation
🔹 Integration of wireless devices into KNX installations

The Alba gateway connects the wireless ecosystem with building automation, while the KNX IoT devices offer further possibilities for combining wired and wireless technologies.

For me, one of the most exciting wireless concepts presented at the conference. It will be interesting to see how this technology develops! 🚀

💡 Very interesting! 2/7 – Smart Linking: Less manual linking in ETS?

One of the developments that particularly caught my attention during Michael Critchfield's presentation at the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026 was Smart Linking.

The idea is simple but powerful: compatible KNX devices provide additional information describing what their communication objects actually do.

Instead of knowing only an object's data type, ETS can recognise its functional role — for example, a wind alarm or a shading-related input.

🔧 The Smart Linking app uses this information to suggest suitable connections between device channels. The integrator can then review, accept or adjust these suggestions as needed.

Of course, this depends on the semantic information provided by each manufacturer's application.

At the conference, we saw how the number of manufacturers and products supporting this approach continues to grow. And that's what makes it especially promising!

👉 My recommendation: Explore the Smart Linking app with compatible products and see how it fits your workflow. In ETS6.4, the "Smart Linking Ready" indicators help identify supported products.

💡 I see considerable potential here: less repetitive work and more time to focus on how the building should actually function.

🌡️ KNX HVAC control goes far beyond room temperature!

At the International KNX Training Centre Conference 2026, ABB presented an interesting application controller for HVAC systems.

We often associate KNX climate control with room thermostats, fan coil units and individual heating or cooling valves. But a complete HVAC installation requires coordination between many different components.

What makes ABB's approach particularly interesting is the possibility of extending control beyond individual rooms to the entire heating and cooling system.
🔹 Room temperature control
🔹 Fan coil units
🔹 Heating and cooling demands
🔹 Central HVAC equipment
🔹 Coordination between room-level control and energy sources

💡 Instead of treating each room as an isolated system, the goal is a more integrated approach to HVAC automation.

This is particularly valuable in larger buildings, where coordinating heating and cooling demands can make a significant difference to operational efficiency and energy consumption.

A great example of how KNX can go beyond individual room automation to provide comprehensive building control! 👏
