🎉 One year of the CIVIT–DXOMARK Joint Lab!

A year ago, we opened the doors at Tampere University to provide world-class image quality assessment and sensor profiling services—supporting advancements in imaging technologies. This facility brings together scientific expertise and global collaboration by combining CIVIT’s state-of-the-art capabilities with DXOMARK’s industry-standard evaluation methods.

Since then, the joint lab has grown into a practical hub for end-to-end image quality assessment—helping teams evaluate and improve imaging performance across a wide range of applications.

📷 We offer comprehensive evaluations including MTF, dynamic range, texture, noise, color fidelity, distortion, and timing. Our system provides LED-based lighting from 380–950 nm and illuminance from 0.1 to 10,000 lux.

🎯 CIVIT at PING.Tampere

Last week at PING.Tampere, we showcased two sides of CIVIT’s work—from Crispy, a lightweight XR display for visual comfort, to 5G teleoperation of an electric wheel loader.

Our demos on site:
• Crispy — Lightweight XR Display Technology That Provides Visual Comfort and Immersion: Combining state‑of‑the‑art ML with nanofabricated diffractive optics to overcome XR display limits and deliver a visually comfortable, lightweight experience.
• 5G Teleoperation of an Electric Wheel Loader: CIVIT’s teleoperation station (wheel + joystick) controlled a real loader at Hervanta campus over 5G—integrating cameras/sensors and software developed in 3D Media Group projects, now being commercialized by Operview, a Tampere University spinoff.

On November 27, 2025, the Centre for Immersive Visual Technologies (CIVIT) celebrated a major milestone—10 years of advancing immersive visual technologies—with a full-day workshop at Tampere University’s Hervanta Campus.

The event brought together researchers, industry experts, and technology enthusiasts to explore the future of immersive visual technologies through presentations, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities.

• Opening words by Prof. Jarmo Takala (Tampere University), emphasizing the importance of modern infrastructures for university research, teaching, and industry collaboration
• Prof. Atanas Gotchev’s overview of CIVIT’s journey and future directions
• Expert talks on automotive imaging and AI-enabled driver assistance systems by Martin Punke (Aumovio), Frederik Zilly (Bosch), and Peter Kovacs (aiMotive)
