Some outdoor spaces become part of everyday living. At Ely House, an oak-frame structure is designed within an irregularly shaped courtyard, where large bifold doors and the specialist Foxtail Oak face glazing system keep it closely connected to the outdoor entertaining area. Designed for year-round use, it feels just as natural beside the pool as it does as part of the home.

Foxtail Oak started with a love for proper oak craftsmanship, the kind that makes an entrance feel warmer, a garden room feel more personal, and a new structure that looks like it has always belonged. From our workshop on the outskirts of Abergavenny, our family-led team brings together traditional craft, careful design, and the sort of details that only really come from knowing the material well.

Every project starts with a conversation, then a site visit, proper measurements, 3D modelling, and rendered visuals so the idea can be seen, adjusted, and understood before the work begins. From the first sketch to the final frame, it's about making oak feel personal, practical, and ready to be part of daily life for years.

We were brought in to create the oak features that give this home its character, from the glazed two-storey gable and Juliet balcony to the exposed roof structure, beams, and internal screens. Outside, the entrance porch creates a warm welcome, while the rear porch gives the family a practical place for muddy boots, firewood, and the everyday things that come with countryside living.
