Another successful scale repair completed by our Service Manager, Mark Henderson 🔧⚖️

A customer's weighing Kern MWS 300K100M scale was recently returned to our workshop after developing a load cell error, preventing accurate operation and taking the instrument out of service.

Using millivolt diagnostics and detailed fault-finding procedures, Mark quickly identified the load cell as the source of the problem 🔍

Once the fault was confirmed, a replacement load cell was sourced and installed before the scale underwent comprehensive testing and calibration to ensure it was performing to specification.

After successfully passing all checks, the scale was returned to the customer fully operational and ready to get back to work ✅

This is a great example of how effective diagnostics and component-level repairs can extend the life of valuable equipment, minimise downtime, and avoid the cost of complete replacement.

At Wishart Group, we're often calibrating and repairing weighing equipment for pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and laboratories—but sometimes the local farm shop needs our help too! 🚜⚖️

Recently, Six Mile Farm Shop brought in an Excell FD3-P weighing scale that had stopped powering on.

Our engineer, Rafal Orzechowski, traced the fault to a failed battery that had been hard-soldered into the charging cable. Before fitting a replacement, Rafal checked the charging circuit to verify it was supplying the correct voltage. This is a crucial step, as a faulty charging circuit can leave replacement batteries unable to charge, leading to repeated battery failures and unnecessary costs ⚠️

With the charging system confirmed healthy, Rafal fitted new spade connectors to simplify future battery replacements, installed a new battery, and fully tested the scale.

The scale is now back in service and ready for many more years of use ✅

Another interesting fault diagnosis completed by Wishart Group Service Engineer, Fernando Perez 👨‍🔧⚙️

Fernando attended site to investigate an OHAUS Corporation Frontier FC5714 (known locally as Mr Spinner 😅) at Kingsbridge Healthcare Group displaying Error 40 and making unusual noises during operation ⚠️

The first steps involved removing and inspecting the rotor for any visible or hairline cracks, along with checking the sensor system to rule out mechanical or detection faults 🔍

After disassembling the centrifuge for a deeper inspection, the cause of the issue quickly became clear… a pen had somehow found its way inside the machine 🖊️😅

The customer mentioned the centrifuge had made a loud noise before the error appeared — mystery solved!

With the obstruction removed, Fernando recalibrated the centrifuge, carried out operational testing, and returned the unit back to normal working condition ✅

Sometimes the smallest objects can cause the biggest problems 👏

Another successful repair completed by Wishart Group Service Manager, Gareth Blades 🔧⚙️

Last week, Gareth attended Precision Analysis to work on a Centurion centrifuge with an issue on the lid opening mechanism.

The fault was traced to a failed gas strut, which assists with safely opening and supporting the centrifuge lid. Gareth replaced the gas strut, checked the lid operation, and then ran the machine through its paces 🧪

Once the repair was complete, the centrifuge was tested and calibrated, ensuring it was operating correctly and ready for use again ✅

Great work from Gareth getting another important piece of laboratory equipment back up and running 👏

Another excellent repair carried out by our Service Engineer, Graeme Lutton 🔧♨️
This time, Graeme was working on a Rodwell Ambassador autoclave which required the replacement of three heating elements.

The job became more involved when the old element glands sheared off inside the autoclave chamber during removal ⚠️

Graeme carefully drilled out the broken glands before carrying out thread redressing and re-tapping work to restore the fixing holes — precision engineering work that required specialist tooling. 🛠️👏

Once the repair work was completed, the autoclave was fully reassembled, tested, and commissioned back at the customer’s site ✅

A great example of problem-solving, engineering skill, and getting critical equipment back into service with minimal downtime.
Excellent work from Graeme once again 👨‍🔧
