It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Barry Thackrah, founder of IVS.

Barry was a huge part of the IVS story. Many people will remember him as an engineer, mentor, problem-solver, straight-talker and larger-than-life character who helped shape the business and many of the people within it.

He believed in hard work, high standards and helping people who genuinely wanted to learn. His influence will always be part of IVS.

As a family, we are heartbroken, but comforted that he is no longer in pain and can now rest easy.

Funeral arrangements will be shared in due course for those who knew Barry and would like to pay their respects.

We will share a fuller tribute to Barry in time, but for now we simply want to thank everyone for their kind messages and support.

Rest easy, Barry.

Whats your Christmas Tradition?? We asked some of our team

17/12/2025

We asked Mark a very simple question:
“Who makes the best tea in the office?”

In true Karl Pilkington fashion, he turned it into:
• a philosophical debate
• a mini documentary
• and a masterclass in attaching a microphone to the wrong thing

Completely unplanned.
Completely Mark.

And honestly… moments like this are a big part of why this place feels the way it does.

Just want to say a genuine thank you to BBC Radio Sheffield, particularly Wendy, for helping shine a light on what’s happened this week.

Also a massive thank you to everyone who’s shared posts, messaged us, and passed on information. Thanks to the power of social media and people looking out for one another, we’ve been able to build a much clearer timeline of events, including where the first van was taken, how the estate was accessed, what was removed, and when our second stolen vehicle was later found burnt out.

That information has been shared with the right people.

This has affected several small businesses, not just us, and the support we’ve had has honestly meant a lot. It’s been a tough few days, but the response from people has reminded us why community matters.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped. Onwards from here.

Just for clarity, we would just like the stuff back please

Last night our workshop at Shafton was broken into. The police were notified at 11.30pm through 999 but didn’t attend until late afternoon (you read that right, over 12 hours later)

A significant amount of equipment was taken, including:
• laptops and mobile phones
• power tools and specialist workshop equipment
• chargers and electrical equipment
• pallet trucks and lifting equipment

Vehicles were also taken, three of our vans were stolen, one of which has since been found burnt out.
The vehicle registrations are:

• YM19 VVR – white jumbo Transit
• YK17 FGW – York Lift Trucks signwritten van (very distinctive)
• MT71 XHA – recovered burnt out, awaiting police recovery

A big thank you to everyone who messaged or called this morning to let us know where the first van had been spotted. The support has genuinely meant a lot.

We’re working closely with the police and our insurers and are doing everything we can to get operations back to normal as quickly as possible.

If anyone sees either of the vehicles above, or comes across items like those listed being offered for sale, or saw anything suspicious in the area late last night or early this morning, please get in touch.

Thank you again to everyone looking out for us, and thank you to our amazing staff that made us so proud of how they are dealing with this!
