Last week, our Year 3 apprentices joined fellow apprentices from Bendalls Engineering for the second module of their Outward Bound residential programme in Eskdale.

It was a busy week involving a two-day expedition, ghyll scrambling, wild swimming and several team challenges designed to push them outside their comfort zones.

Away from their usual roles, they had the opportunity to build their confidence, strengthen relationships with their colleagues and develop important workplace skills including communication, teamwork, resilience, trust and ownership.

They ended the programme by creating individual SMART action plans, giving them clear areas to focus on when returning to the workplace.

For NW Total, supporting opportunities like this is an important part of developing capable and confident people who are ready to take on more responsibility as their careers progress.

We're excited to share that NW Total Engineered Solutions is recruiting apprenticeships this year.

We're offering places on our Level 3 Metal Fabricator and Level 3 Engineering Fitter programmes — both based across our sites in Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle (Bendalls Engineering), and both delivered in partnership with Lakes College.

These are real jobs with real training. Over 4 years, apprentices will build the kind of practical, hands-on skills that form the backbone of what we do — working in the defence and nuclear supply chains, alongside experienced engineers who know their trade inside out.

A few things worth knowing before applying:

✅ You must be 18 or over at the start of the programme
🏠 Year 1 includes full time residential college weeks in Carlisle — accommodation is arranged and funded by us, so there's no cost to you
💰 It's a paid apprenticeship throughout
