Wow, what a difference! This project was a huge transformation, with a lot of time, patience and attention to detail going into bringing this beautiful old Georgian property back to life.

Starting from the outside, the tired and outdated black front door was given a complete makeover. After plenty of preparation, sanding and filling, I finished it in Farrow & Ball Joa’s White in a full gloss finish. The result is a much cleaner, brighter and more timeless entrance that really complements the character of the Georgian property.

I then moved inside to tackle this impressive five-storey staircase, which required a serious amount of preparation and attention to detail. The old, battered skirting boards were carefully repaired using a combination of two-part wood filler and Toupret wood filler, filling dents, cracks and imperfections before being thoroughly sanded back to create a smooth, fresh finish. The stair strings were also carefully cut in , helping to define the staircase and make the whole space feel cleaner and more striking.

There was also a lot of wall preparation involved, using wall filler to smooth out imperfections and create a much better surface ready for decorating. Once everything was properly prepared, the walls and ceiling were colour drenched in Farrow & Ball Joa’s White, finished in a beautiful Dead Flat. The windows, door frames and internal doors were also painted in Joa’s White, tying the whole staircase together.

The combination of extensive preparation, repairs, clean lines and a fresh, consistent colour has completely transformed the space. What was once a tired and worn staircase now feels brighter, cleaner, bigger and much more in keeping with the elegance and character of the original Georgian property. A huge amount of work went into this one, but the finished result makes every bit of the preparation worthwhile

What a transformation this project turned out to be. When I first arrived, the bottom of each of these wooden doors had suffered from extensive rot, which, if left untreated, would have continued to deteriorate. I carefully cut away all of the damaged timber before applying a high-quality wood hardener to strengthen the remaining wood and prevent any further decay. Once the structure was secure, I meticulously rebuilt each damaged section using a durable two-pack wood filler, taking the time to shape and sand every repair until it blended seamlessly with the original doors. The end result was a set of doors that looked as though they had never been damaged.

To complete the restoration, I prepared every surface thoroughly before applying Farrow & Ball paint using a roller, ensuring a smooth, even, and professional finish with excellent coverage. No detail was overlooked throughout the project.

The front step also received plenty of attention. Years of wear had left it looking tired and damaged, so I carefully repaired all imperfections using a high-quality exterior filler before sanding it back to create a clean, solid surface. It was then finished with a durable black anti-slip paint, giving it a fresh new appearance while also providing a safer, hard-wearing surface that will stand up to the elements for years to come.

The hall, stairs, landing, and downstairs toilet were fully updated, changing the walls from cream to a unique colour called “Mud Lark.” The paint was applied in a diamond matt finish, giving the walls a smooth and even look. To complete the colour-drenched style, all the woodwork and the front door were carefully sanded and prepared before being painted in the same colour. A diamond satinwood finish was used on these areas to add a slight shine, helping them stand out while still matching the walls and ceilings. The final result is a clean, modern space that fits well with the colour-drenched theme used in other rooms.
