⚙️ "I just had my autoclave serviced, so I don't need a validation... right?" ⚙️
This is one of the most common misconceptions we hear in dental practices. While servicing and validation sound similar, relying on one without the other puts your patients, your team, and your clinical registration at serious risk.
To keep your practice fully compliant and safe, you need both.
🛠️ Servicing = Mechanical Health
Think of a service like an oil change for your car. It keeps the hardware running smoothly. An engineer replaces worn seals, checks electrical components, clears filters, and prevents unexpected breakdowns. Servicing ensures the machine physically functions.
📋 Validation = Biological Safety & Compliance
Validation is your MOT. It proves the machine actually kills bacteria, viruses, and spores. By using independent, highly calibrated data loggers, validation verifies that the physical conditions inside the chamber (heat, steam pe*******on, pressure) actually match what the machine’s control panel displays.
Why servicing alone is a major risk:
Hidden Failures: An autoclave can be perfectly serviced and heat up, but if an internal valve prevents proper air removal, steam cannot pe*****te the instrument pouches. The machine will print a "Pass," but the instruments remain unsterile.
Sensor Drift: Over time, internal machine sensors drift out of calibration. Validation catches these hidden discrepancies before they impact patient safety.
CQC & HTM 01-05 Audits: Inspectors do not accept a service invoice as proof of decontamination. You must produce a current validation certificate to pass.
Legal Protection: In the event of a healthcare-associated infection investigation, validation records provide the legal audit trail proving your practice exercised due diligence.
Don't leave your clinical standards to guesswork. Protect your patients, your staff, and your reputation.
