The timber former sets the exact line of the curved edge before the mix gets anywhere near it. πŸ“πŸ‘€
We spray onto the mesh, then screed it back to the former with a straight edge, one section at a time.
The trowel does the last pass, pressing the surface tight and taking out every ripple while the mix is still soft.
Once it's set, the wood comes off and the curve is exactly where the drawing said it would be. πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🏻

Hose split, innit. The mix was a little bit too dry, too hard to push the pressure of all that line on, and we found a weak spot in the pipe and it's blown. Just when we thought we had it all sorted from the last hose, this one ends up blowing.

It's blocked here, that's what it is. You get a build up of sand and it just blocks the pipe. It's the sand that's the issue. Too dry, and the line can't take it.

Putting them on the wrong way round. That's where it all comes from πŸ˜…

Big shout out to Steve, our normal pump man. He's not here today, so I'm getting all the airtime that's usually his.

He'll be getting upset when he sees this. It's already hard enough getting him in on a Monday.

Lines, couplings and clamps all have to go on the right way round before any concrete moves. Get one backwards and you find out the hard way.

Why our shotcrete mix isn't normal concrete

It has to be a special mix, really high cement content. If it wasn't, it'd just be a lot of sand trying to get pushed down a two inch line, and that isn't going to happen. That sandy, gravelly mix would end up clogged in the pipes.

The cement is what helps it slide through the line, because we use such a small hose. The trade off is that a higher cement content goes off a lot faster, so you haven't got as much workability with it. It costs more too, because cement is a lot more expensive than sand.

Great one working alongside . πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🏻

90 metres of hose and no room for a gap

We really don't want to be waiting in between wagons, because this concrete goes off really fast. So we try to time it perfectly, one wagon following on from the next, no big gap in between, so the concrete isn't left sitting in the hoses.

You can feel it struggling in the reducer. With the mix being so sandy it's a big effort for the pump to push it all the way up there. Real heavy.

It's always a race against time with these things. Stressful. πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🏻

Built for the Ride πŸ›Ή

There’s a lot more precision behind a skate park than it looks. πŸ“πŸ‘€
A skate park needs continuous surfaces that feel natural from one section to the next.
That’s where the flexibility of sprayed concrete really comes into its own.
Great project working alongside to get this one built. πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🏻

The Perfect Finish Starts Here!

Creating a perfect surface takes more than good materials. πŸ“πŸ‘€
Every sprayed concrete shell we build is carefully shaped and leveled while the material is still workable, creating smooth, consistent surfaces that provide the perfect foundation for the finished pool.
With in hand, the focus stays on precision, durability, and getting the job done properly from start to finish. πŸ› οΈπŸ”₯

How To Hold The Hose Without It Throwing You πŸ‘€

When you're spraying there's a lot of pressure coming through that line, and if you stand square to it the pipe just wants to push straight back at you.

So I stand one foot in front of the other, sort of like a boxing stance, and I keep the weight of the pipe against my back leg. Then I always leave a bit of slack in the hose, so I've got plenty of room to move without fighting it.

Get the stance right and the pipe works with you instead of against you. πŸ”₯πŸ’ͺ🏻
