This month, our environmental team returned to the East Sussex Coast for the second phase of the beach clean‑up operation following a loss of containers from the Lombok Strait container vessel.

This stage required the use of a helicopter to lift and remove larger, more inaccessible items of debris that couldn’t be carried by hand along the coastline.

The helicopter solution was selected as the most efficient means of recovery due to the rocky foreshore and the limited options for access to the beach by road. Every piece of debris had to be collected, packed, and moved manually.

The exposed coastline presented several challenges for our team including planning for potential movement of the debris due to tides and wave action in-between the identification process and subsequent removal the following day.

Despite these additional complexities, our team — supported by the helicopter — has now successfully removed all lost containers and container parts, and the beach has been fully restored to its original condition.

Mental Health Awareness Week 🧠

In marine and offshore industries, wellbeing isn’t just important — it’s essential

A healthy workplace is one where everyone feels able to speak up, reach out and look out for each other — onshore, offshore, and everywhere in between.

At Briggs, we’re continually strengthening our approach to mental health by:

• Encouraging open conversations across teams and worksites

• Promoting early recognition of when someone may be struggling

• Providing training that helps our people better support one another

• Championing a culture where seeking help is always a sign of strength

Together, we’re committed to shaping a working environment where mental wellbeing is valued as highly as physical safety.

What's The Medway Hunter been up too?

The Medway Hunter and its crew have been busy across several taskings for our client Peel Ports London Medway.

First up, the team were engaged in river‑clearance duties where an impressive 35 shopping trolleys were located and hauled from the river. Sadly, none of them came with any forgotten treasure. Among the finds were also several large objects that, at first glance, looked like elephant trunks — but were in fact tree branches around 5 metres long.

The crew then joined forces with the Briggs Aids to Navigation (AtoN) department to carry out maintenance and cleaning of the Medway Channel navigational buoys, removing the heavy growth that builds up over time. The team worked safely throughout, ensuring the buoys were left clean, secure, and clearly visible for all river users.

Most recently, the Medway Hunter and crew were tasked with a salvage operation adjacent to the M20 Bridge, responding to a sunken cabin cruiser. Working quickly, the team patched holes, pumped out the vessel, and successfully had it reflated and towed away so as not to cause an obstruction or environmental hazard.. Once afloat, ??
