When temperatures fall, pipeline materials are put under their greatest stress.

Unlike metallic pipelines, PE pipes remain flexible at low temperatures, allowing them to accommodate ground movement, frost heave and freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or fracturing. This flexibility helps reduce the risk of costly failures during winter conditions.

PE pipes also have the ability to deform and recover if water freezes within the system. As ice expands, PE can absorb the pressure far more effectively than rigid metallic materials, which are more susceptible to cracking, joint failure or burst incidents under similar conditions.
