Developing talent from within has always been a key part of WEC Group, with many employees building long-term careers across different areas of the business.

Luke’s journey is a great example of how hands-on experience and internal progression can lead to new opportunities. He has spent 9 years developing his career with us, progressing to Senior Sales Engineer in our Laser Division.

“I first worked at WEC Group during summer periods throughout college and university, gaining experience across different shop floor sections before returning full-time in 2017.

Starting as a helping hand and later becoming a Press Brake Operator gave me valuable knowledge of the manufacturing process, which really helped when I moved into the Laser Division Sales Team as a Trainee Sales Estimator.

Now, as a Senior Sales Engineer, I have developed a strong understanding of the whole process from quote stage through to delivery, while also building great relationships with customers and developing key account management skills.

I’m very grateful for the opportunities WEC Group has given me to continue learning, progressing and developing both professionally and personally.”

Luke’s progression highlights the wide range of opportunities available across WEC Group, where employees are encouraged to broaden their knowledge, develop their careers and gain experience across multiple areas of the business.

At WEC Group, we believe in creating careers that last a lifetime. We recently caught up with Josh, who will be celebrating his 9-year anniversary with WEC Group this month.

“I started my career at WEC Group through the company’s apprenticeship scheme, completing my apprenticeship alongside a HNC in mechanical engineering. WEC Group then continued to support my development by sponsoring my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering while I worked within the business.

Since joining WEC Group, I have progressed into the role of Project Engineer, where I manage projects from initial concept and design through to manufacture and final delivery. My role involves designing bespoke products using CAD software, producing manufacturing drawings, organising production, estimating projects, and overseeing them through production to ensure they are delivered to a high standard.

Studying alongside working gave me the opportunity to develop both my technical knowledge and practical engineering experience at the same time. The support provided by WEC Group throughout my education and career development has been invaluable and has helped me progress into the position I’m in today.”

Josh’s journey highlights the opportunities available across WEC Group, where investment in training, education and career progression helps employees build long-term successful careers within the business.
