We are delighted to share some fantastic news and congratulate Accounts Apprentice, Rose Creamer on successfully passing her AAT Level 3 qualification – a brilliant achievement and one that is thoroughly deserved.

To make the result even more impressive, Rose achieved a Distinction in her final interview, providing a fantastic finish to all the hard work she has put into her qualification.

The journey was not always straightforward, and Rose faced a few challenges along the way. However, she showed real perseverance and determination, continuing to work towards her goal even when things did not go quite to plan. Her resilience and commitment have certainly paid off.

Completing a professional qualification alongside the demands of a day-to-day role takes a great deal of dedication, and Rose should be incredibly proud of what she has achieved. It is also a great example of how persistence through the more challenging moments can lead to a result worth celebrating.

A huge congratulations to Rose from everyone at JPP. We are all very proud of you and look forward to seeing what comes next!

Starting a career in engineering is always a learning curve, but experiencing it through the eyes of an apprentice brings a fresh perspective on growth, challenge and opportunity.

Ovidui Tibuleac, one of our talented apprentices at the JPP Group, reflects on his journey so far — from stepping into the industry for the first time to gaining hands‑on experience that’s shaping his future.

"Technical Skills & Learning - Understanding drawings: from confusion to confidence

When I first started in the Highways team, I didn’t really understand what I was looking at when I opened an engineering drawing. A lot of the symbols, abbreviations and information were unfamiliar, and it took time to understand what everything represented. I found that the best way to develop this was through constant exposure to drawings on live projects and not being afraid to refer back to the drawing key whenever I came across something I didn’t recognise.

Over time, I started to recognise more of the information without needing to check, and I became much more confident in understanding how the different elements of a drawing relate to one another and the wider project. I also learnt that understanding a drawing is about much more than knowing how to use CAD; it’s about being able to interpret the information, understand what needs to be communicated and recognise when something needs further investigation.

It’s something I’m still developing, but looking back at the drawings I struggled to understand when I first started compared to the ones I can now confidently work with, it’s one of the areas where I can really see my progress."

A big thank you to Ov for sharing such an open and thoughtful insight into his development so far. It is great to hear, in his own words, how his confidence and technical understanding have grown through hands-on experience.

🔹 My first week on the job vs. now 🔹

"When I first started within the Highways team, everything was unfamiliar. I was learning new terminology, meeting new people, and trying to understand what engineers and technicians do on a day-to-day basis. I was taught how to use 2D CAD and, after learning the basics, I reinforced my skills by applying them to live projects. There was a lot to take in, and I definitely didn’t expect to understand everything straight away. Now, I’m much more confident in my role and have developed both my technical and professional skills. I’m producing drawings for new projects, working with information from different surveys, checking work and responding to technical comments. I have a much better understanding of how our projects come together. Where I initially needed guidance through most tasks, I can now take on drawings and amendments with much more independence, knowing when I can solve something myself and when I need to ask for support.

The biggest difference since I started is probably my confidence. Things that seemed complicated or unfamiliar during my first week are now things I regularly deal with, and I’m much more comfortable approaching something I haven’t seen before and working out what needs to be done.

One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is how much I question things. I think asking questions is an important part of an apprenticeship because, ultimately, I’m here to learn. If I don’t understand why something has been done a certain way, I’ll question it and learn from the engineer’s reasoning. This means I’m not just learning how to complete a task, but also understanding the thought process behind it and making the most of the experience of the people around me.

For me, that’s one of the biggest benefits of an apprenticeship is that you get to learn the theory at university while having the opportunity to apply it to real projects and learn directly from experienced people around you. That combination was a big reason why I chose to do an apprenticeship, and choosing JPP gave me the opportunity to gain real experience on live engineering projects while being supported by experienced engineers and technicians. Being able to learn from the people around me, take on more responsibility as my skills develop and see how my work contributes to the wider project is what makes the apprenticeship such a valuable way to start my career."

We love hearing from the students who spend time with us on work experience, and Casey Judd’s feedback following his week at our Northampton office is a fantastic reflection of the effort our teams put into making these placements worthwhile.

Casey particularly enjoyed spending time with our Structural Engineering team, working with loads and creating a 3D steel frame design in Revit — a great opportunity to see how the skills and software used by our engineers translate into real-world projects.

Casey also highlighted Mitch Ormshaw and Sam Flower for being “very helpful and engaging” throughout the placement. 👏

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to Casey’s week. From planning the placement and sharing your knowledge to taking the time to answer questions and provide hands-on experience, it’s this enthusiasm and support that makes our work experience programme such a success.

Thank you also to Casey, for your lovely feedback! We’re so pleased you enjoyed your week with .

JPP Construction Management is a part of The JPP Group. The team offers support throughout the life cycle of construction projects including Party Wall Surveying services.

Ever wondered what a Party Wall Surveyor actually does, or what you need to know before having a Party Wall Survey carried out?

Over the coming weeks, we have been sharing our Party Wall Guide — a simple, clear and practical resource designed to help homeowners, neighbours and developers understand the process, their rights, and what to expect at each stage.

Whether you’re planning an extension, starting a new build, or just want to feel more confident about the Party Wall process, our guide will give you everything you need to move forward with clarity and peace of mind.

🔹 Part 4 - What does a Party Wall Award contain?

While each Award is tailored to individual circumstances, common clauses include:

· Details of the Proposed works: scope, method, and drawings.
· Working hours: when noisy or disruptive work may be carried out.
· Access rights: when surveyors, contractors, or builders may enter the neighbour’s land.
· Schedule of Condition: baseline evidence to protect both sides.
· Damage provisions: clauses covering responsibility for repairs and making good.
· Cost allocation: who pays surveyors’ fees and any remedial works following damage
· Dispute resolution: how variations or disagreements will be handled.

Our Highways team recently took their turn in JPP’s internal CPD training programme, following excellent sessions delivered by our Geotechnical and Structural colleagues.

Sharing knowledge across disciplines is a key part of how we continue to strengthen our collective expertise. It was great to see Harry Smith the Highways team share their knowledge, highlighting key design principles, common challenges and best-practice approaches from their area of expertise.

At JPP, we believe that continuous learning and collaboration are essential to delivering the best outcomes for our clients. Sessions like these give our teams the opportunity to learn from one another, stay aligned and share practical knowledge that can be applied across our projects.

A great session from the Highways team — and a brilliant example of in action. 👏
