If OMS made suncream, it would probably be the best in the world. After all, our Danish colleagues know a thing or two about making the most of the sunshine when it finally appears! Sadly, we don't manufacture SPF 30. But we are delighted to continue supporting Lymington Town Sailing Club, its members and visitors by keeping the sun cream dispenser topped up throughout the season.

What we do make is rather different. As part of the BSI Marine Equipment Group, OMS designs and manufactures thrusters and hydraulic systems used on everything from high-performance RC44 race yachts to some of the world's largest and most prestigious superyachts. And that's just one part of the story.

As the heatwave hits the UK once more we have been looking for a new fan to keep everyone here at OMS nice a cool.

One of the divisions of OMS is architectural/structural rigging. Over the years we have worked on a number of buildings in central London, collaborating with construction companies to meet their customer requirements. One of our most recent projects was with Laing O'Rourke working closely with them on 150 Bishopsgate along with helping them on the most recent Tideway project.

Today is where the sailing and construction industry meet, as our Sales Director and BSI Marine Equipment Group CCO Mark Barwell will be taking part in the Thames Tideway Dinghy Derby to mark one year of the opening of the Tideway Tunnel and a cleaner Thames supported by Laing O’Rourke.

The Tideway Dinghy Derby, last run in 1977 when over 300 boats competed for the Queens Silver Jubilee, returns in 2026 as the new Thames Tideway Tunnel (often called the ‘super sewer’) celebrates its first year of operation. The new infrastructure, along with the Lee Tunnel and major upgrades to Thames Water sewage treatment works across London, is dramatically reducing discharges of storm sewage into the tidal Thames, creating a healthier river environment for generations to come. More than 18 million tonnes of sewage have now been diverted away from the tidal River Thames.

The race is also raising valuable funds for the Scaramouche Sailing Trust a charity OMS has supported since 2016. We wish all the sailors a wonderful day on the Thames. Stay tuned for the photos!

Well, yesterday's lightning storm certainly made itself known!
