Sometimes the challenge isn’t the component.

It’s everything around it.

We worked on a project that involved multiple materials, several production stages and coordination across many different suppliers.

Each stage had to align. Each part had to meet specification. And everything had to come together at the right time. That’s where complexity builds. Not in one big problem, but in lots of small ones from delays between stages, inconsistencies between suppliers and communication gaps

This is why more businesses are rethinking how they work with suppliers. Not just looking at price. But asking: who can manage complexity reliably?

Because in the end, that’s what keeps production moving.

Material cost pressures are rising again across UK manufacturing.

Surcharges, supply chain disruption and pricing volatility are becoming more common, particularly across technical materials.

We’re already seeing this affect planning, quoting and lead times for many businesses.

To help, we’ve put together some FAQs covering:
• What’s driving these increases
• How widespread they are
• What buyers can do now

Read our guide to learn more.

Material surcharges are affecting technical foam, plastics and manufacturing supply chains across the UK. Explore the latest FAQs on pricing, lead times, supply risk and planning for aerospace, defence and industrial applications.

Can you protect an egg from a drop using foam?

We put it to the test at Kewell Converters.

With just 20 minutes, limited materials and one goal, stop the egg breaking, the team had to think quickly, test ideas and adapt.

Some designs worked. Some didn’t.

But every approach revealed something important about how foam behaves under impact.

With World Creativity & Innovation Day today, it’s a good reminder that engineering isn’t just about materials or machinery, it’s about how you think, test and solve problems.

If you’re interested in what we learned (and how this applies to real-world applications), we’ve shared a breakdown in our latest blog.

Well done to all the team Chloe Newbury Nick Kewell Scot Mackay Neil Johnston Andrea Deans

We’re pleased to see our recent work with local SEN students featured by the UK Gasket & Sealing Association.

Across UK engineering and manufacturing, there is a well-known skills gap, and helping young people understand the careers available in our industry has never been more important.

At Kewell Converters, we’ve been welcoming students from local specialist schools into the factory for hands-on work placements, giving them the opportunity to experience a real engineering environment and build confidence in their abilities.

Thank you to the UK Gasket & Sealing Association for sharing the story.

If you’re an employer, school or college exploring ways to introduce young people to engineering careers, we’d love to see more organisations getting involved.

As part of National Careers Week, Kewell Converters introduced SEN students to careers in engineering and manufacturing through factory placements

Engineering is stronger with everyone involved

Sunday was International Women’s Day, a moment to recognise the women contributing to industries that haven’t always been the most obvious career path.

At Kewell Converters, women work across the business, from production and finishing to customer support and leadership.

Over the past few years we’ve shared the stories of some of the women behind the business including Lucy, Chloe, Maria and Julie, and the skill, precision and teamwork they bring to manufacturing every day.

Engineering and manufacturing are still heavily male-dominated industries, but the qualities that matter most here - attention to detail, problem-solving and pride in workmanship belong to everyone.

Thank you to the women in our team for the work you do every day.

Inspiring the next generation of engineers

For World Engineering Day, our Managing Director Nick Kewell spent time with students at The View School, a local SEN school in Edenbridge talking about careers in engineering.

Engineering is all about curiosity, creativity and problem solving and it was fantastic to see the questions and ideas coming from the students as they explored how materials, design and manufacturing come together in the real world.

At Kewell Converters, we believe engineering should be accessible to everyone. Spending time with young people and sharing what a career in engineering can look like is something we’re always proud to support.

Thank you to The View School for the warm welcome and for giving us the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring session.

And that’s a wrap 🎯

Southern Manufacturing & Electronics 2026 was a brilliant few days.

Over the three days, more than 50 people stepped up to the dartboard, plenty of selfies were taken, and we had lots of real engineering conversations on the stand.

Dartboard challenge winners
Congratulations to Damien Mountjoy and Saša Krajnc Saša Krajnc, our highest scorers. We’ve made a donation to charities of their choice.

Selfie board winner
Well done to Matthew Covell for getting the most engagement on their selfie post - champagne or chocolates are on the way.

Beyond the games, the stand was busy with practical conversations, live problem-solving and discussions about real applications. We even helped work through a customer challenge on the stand, exactly what these events are all about.

It was also great to meet students and young people exploring careers in engineering and apprenticeships.

The genius behind the application… caught on camera

Southern Manufacturing is nearly here, and here’s a small glimpse of the personality behind the engineering you’ll find on the Kewell Converters stand.

Yes, this is Nick Kewell Managing Director, engineer at heart, and someone who genuinely loves solving complex problems and pushing ideas further.

If you’re heading to Southern Manufacturing & Electronics Show next week come and:

- Meet the engineers behind the applications
- Talk through real technical challenges
- See materials and solutions up close
- Have a go at the dartboard
- Grab a selfie on our selfie board (and tag us)

Stand D220

Selfies encouraged.

Engineering conversations guaranteed.

See you there.
