Ice lollies might help the team cool down, but keeping manufacturing consistent during extreme heat takes a little more planning.

High temperatures can influence how certain materials behave, as well as how they are stored, handled and processed. Machinery and equipment performance may also be affected, while production schedules sometimes need to allow for additional monitoring as conditions change.

At Kewell Converters, maintaining consistent quality means carefully controlling every stage of the manufacturing process, whatever the weather. Alongside helping the team stay comfortable during the hottest days with plenty of water, regular breaks and the occasional frozen treat, robust processes and careful planning help keep production running smoothly.

The finished component may look exactly the same, but periods of extreme weather are a useful reminder of just how many environmental factors manufacturers manage behind the scenes to deliver consistent results.

Save the date: National Manufacturing Day returns this September

Following last year’s successful Open Day, Kewell Converters will once again be opening its doors on Thursday 24 September 2026 to celebrate National Manufacturing Day.

We’ll be welcoming schools, local businesses and customers into our Edenbridge factory for a behind-the-scenes look at modern British manufacturing.

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet members of our team, tour the factory and see how raw foam materials are transformed into precision components for demanding industries.

With temperatures climbing above 30°C this week, it's been a challenging few days across the factory.

Sometimes it's the simple things that make all the difference!

A well-earned ice lolly gave the team a chance to cool down before getting back to work, keeping production moving while looking after one another in the heat.

A big thank you to everyone for their continued hard work and commitment during another busy week.

Today is International Women in Engineering Day (INWED).

It's an opportunity to recognise the talented women who are part of the Kewell Converters team and the important role they play across our business.

From production and quality to planning, customer support and specialist manufacturing, their skills, knowledge and problem-solving help us deliver for customers every day.

Engineering is ultimately about people, teamwork and finding better ways to solve challenges. We're proud to work alongside women who do exactly that.

Sometimes the challenge isn’t the component.

It’s everything around it.

We worked on a project that involved multiple materials, several production stages and coordination across many different suppliers.

Each stage had to align. Each part had to meet specification. And everything had to come together at the right time. That’s where complexity builds. Not in one big problem, but in lots of small ones from delays between stages, inconsistencies between suppliers and communication gaps

This is why more businesses are rethinking how they work with suppliers. Not just looking at price. But asking: who can manage complexity reliably?

Because in the end, that’s what keeps production moving.

Can you protect an egg from a drop using foam?

We put it to the test at Kewell Converters.

With just 20 minutes, limited materials and one goal, stop the egg breaking, the team had to think quickly, test ideas and adapt.

Some designs worked. Some didn’t.

But every approach revealed something important about how foam behaves under impact.

With World Creativity & Innovation Day today, it’s a good reminder that engineering isn’t just about materials or machinery, it’s about how you think, test and solve problems.

With the Easter bank holiday weekend approaching, we’d recommend allowing a little extra time for orders and deliveries.
