📢 Leadership update at Land + Water

After 36 years of helping to build Land + Water and more than a decade as CEO, James Maclean will begin stepping down from his role as part of a carefully planned leadership transition.

Kevin Kirkland, currently Chief Executive Designate, will gradually take on CEO responsibilities before formally assuming the position in April 2027. James will then move into a new role as Futures Director, focusing on emerging markets and strategic opportunities.

This transition comes at a time of growth for the company and marks an exciting new chapter for Land + Water, while our purpose, values and commitment to delivering exceptional projects remain unchanged.

📢 We’re thrilled to have been selected as one of the suppliers for Pagabo’s National Framework for Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Enabling Works 2026.

Worth £4.29bn, it’s Pagabo’s largest infrastructure procurement to date, with 111 suppliers across 13 lots. The framework connects public sector bodies and private organisations with appointed contractors to deliver high-quality services and value-for-money outcomes.

Pagabo is managing the four-year framework on behalf of YPO, and it’s open to central and local government, the NHS, blue light services, housing, and education.

Thanks to everyone on our team who helped us secure a place on this framework; we look forward to working with Pagabo and its clients over the next four years to deliver successful UK infrastructure projects.

Our Albury team enjoyed delicious cakes and bakes at a Coffee Morning in support of Macmillan Cancer Support 🍰☕💚

The baked goods were so good that we raised over £250, all of which goes towards supporting those living with cancer.

Thanks to all our bakers, especially Lynn Puttock for the array of tasty treats, Leo Panapakidis for the cakes and flowers, and to the whole team for their support in raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

We value the mental health support The Lighthouse Charity provides to the construction industry.

As part of their tour, their team recently visited two of our sites - Sizewell C and Dunsfold Park Remediation Site - sharing real-life stories and encouraging open discussions about the Three Pillars of Wellbeing: Mental, Physical and Financial. It was powerful to hear them open up and emphasise the importance of strong communication with colleagues and friends.

We appreciate the round-the-clock support they offer. If you work in the construction industry and are struggling with any of the three areas, please reach out to them on 0345 605 1956. This service is also available to family members.

A beautiful morning at our Dunsfold site for a ‘Safety Squad’ session led by our Head of HSQE, Marc Portillo. Our leadership team visited to catch up with the team, see how things are progressing, and open the floor to ideas and feedback. We prioritise safety and encourage open dialogue across all teams.

Safety Squad is an open initiative attended by every part of the site team and the whole management structure, right up to the board. It's a "gloves off, hats off" approach where we forget our roles and titles and talk as one about how we can improve our sites, wellbeing, business, and regenerative strategies.

This week, our CEO, James Maclean, and Remediation Director, Tom Melhuish, spent time in Cornwall and the West Country. They visited clients, checked out new projects, and stopped by our Sparkford office.

On the second day, they shadowed students Jack and Sam, who brought enthusiasm and insightful questions, which helped us consider future job opportunities and how we can foster a regenerative future.

Land + Water are delighted to have partnered with Canal & River Trust (and formally British Waterways) for more than 30 years!

As a family business we are proud that some of the team that delivered our first project for Canal & River Trust are still with us today.

Over the years we have led the way, continuously innovating and improving our methods for dredging as well as routes for Nature Positive methods of silt disposal.

Our innovations have driven down the cost of dredging and reduced the environmental impact.
