Celebrating Innovation in Safety 🦺

Congratulations to Groundforce on winning the Linda Grant Health, Safety and Innovation Award at the CECA Yorkshire & the Humber Awards for their innovative SheetMaster 2.0 system.

We were delighted to trial the SheetMaster on our Yorkshire Water Kelfield STW scheme ahead of its official launch. It was a privilege for David Cackett and Joel Rothery to be involved in both the prefabrication and trial stages, helping to test and refine a solution designed to improve safety across the industry.

At Seymour VHE, we're passionate about working collaboratively with our supply chain partners and embracing innovation that delivers real benefits on site. Being involved in the development of technologies that help reduce risk and create safer working environments is something we greatly value.

Dan Athey, SHEQ Manager, and Mal Bell, Operations Director, were pleased to represent Seymour Civil Engineering at the latest Renew Holdings plc Safety & Enviornmental Management Group (SEMG), which took a fresh approach by moving conversations out of the meeting room and onto operational sites across the Renew Group.

Managing Directors and Renew Directors visited a range of live projects across the Group, providing an opportunity to engage directly with frontline teams and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges, opportunities and day-to-day realities of delivering work safely.

At Seymour Civil Engineering, our NWL NIDP Sedgefield project team welcomed Amanda Starkey, Renew Holdings plc Group HR Director, and Gavin Jakubowski, Managing Director of Shepley Engineers. The visit created an invaluable opportunity for open conversations about safety, leadership and continuous improvement.

While safety performance can be reviewed through reports and meetings, there is no substitute for seeing operations first-hand and hearing directly from the people delivering the work. The insights, experiences and honest feedback shared by our team sparked meaningful discussions and reinforced the importance of involving those closest to the work when shaping our approach to safety, so that we all return home safe every day.

A huge thank you to Marcus, Kevin, Danny, Andy, Mick, Peter and Kevin for accommodating the visit, standing down works and taking the time to share their knowledge, experiences and perspectives.

These conversations are a powerful reminder that building a strong safety culture starts with listening, learning and working together.

Driving Future Growth in the Tees Valley 🚧

We are to have completed the enabling works package for the Teeslink Development, a significant 54-acre regeneration project being delivered on behalf of Rula Developments and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

The scheme will create development-ready industrial platforms, unlocking opportunities for future occupiers and supporting long-term investment across the region. Once fully developed, the site has the potential to generate up to 1,000 new jobs, making a valuable contribution to economic growth and prosperity in the Tees Valley.

Our works formed a key part of preparing the site for future development, with careful planning, collaboration and phased delivery helping to pave the way for the next stage of the project.

A fantastic achievement by everyone involved and another example of how infrastructure investment can create lasting benefits for local communities and economies.

Tonight, we are to be attending the CECA Yorkshire & the Humber Annual Awards 2026 as finalists in the Project of the Year (Under £3m) category! 🎉

Our Rawcliffe Sewage Treatment Works project, delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Water, has been shortlisted in recognition of its contribution to the AMP7 UIMP6 Storm Volume Obligation Programme, helping to increase stormwater storage capacity and support evolving environmental requirements.

Completed in May 2025 following a 26-week programme, the project featured an innovative storm tank design that utilised an open channel solution in place of traditional connecting pipework. This approach improved efficiency within a constrained site footprint while reducing construction complexity, cost and future maintenance requirements.

Being shortlisted is a fantastic achievement and reflects the collaboration, innovation and dedication demonstrated by everyone involved throughout the project. We'd like to thank Yorkshire Water, our design partners, supply chain and stakeholders for their support in making the scheme a success.

We're looking forward to celebrating alongside colleagues and peers from across the industry this evening and wish the very best of luck to all finalists.👏

National Inclusion Week | Creating Opportunities Through Inclusion🌍👥

This National Inclusion Week, we're to shine a spotlight on the work being done to create opportunities, break down barriers and build a more inclusive future for our industry.

As Seymour Skills Academy Training Academy Manager and our representative on the Renew Diversity Forum, Donna is passionate about ensuring diversity and inclusion are embedded in everything we do.

Donna’s commitment is reflected in the work we deliver every day through the Seymour Skills Academy, providing accessible pathways into construction and supporting individuals who may otherwise face barriers to employment.

Since opening, the Academy has:
✅Supported 1,934 unemployed learners on their journey into employment and training.
✅Helped 1,248 learners progress into work across a wide range of industries.
✅Achieved more than 12,670 qualifications, equipping people with the skills, confidence and credentials needed to succeed.
✅Worked with 379 employers and agencies who have recruited Academy graduates between August 2020 and July 2026.

The Academy's impact extends across some of the most disadvantaged communities in the Tees Valley. Through the Adult Skills Fund, we've supported learners living in areas identified by the Index of Multiple Deprivation, helping to remove barriers to participation, learning and employment.

From 2020/21 to 2025/26, learners from disadvantaged Tees Valley postcodes achieved 2,660 qualifications, with an outstanding 91.13% achievement rate, demonstrating what can be achieved when people are given the support, opportunities and encouragement they need to thrive.

The impact is also being felt by employers. The number of organisations recruiting Academy graduates has grown year-on-year, helping to strengthen the regional workforce and create meaningful employment opportunities throughout the Tees Valley and beyond.

Our in-house and Renew Diversity Forum provides an important platform for sharing best practice, challenging barriers and driving positive change across the Group. Combined with the work of the Skills Academy, it helps ensure we continue creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to reach their full potential.

Because inclusion isn't just about opening doors. It's about ensuring everyone has the opportunity to walk through them.

We are to launch our Every Conversation Matters wellbeing campaign, running from World Su***de Prevention Day, 10 September, through to World Mental Health Day, 10 October.

Mental health affects every one of us. Whether it's our own wellbeing, that of a family member, a friend or a colleague, it is something that touches all our lives. Yet too often, people continue to struggle in silence. This campaign is about helping to change that by encouraging open, honest conversations and reminding people that support is available.

As a business, we are committed to creating an environment where people feel safe, supported, and able to bring their whole selves to work. We recognise that fostering positive mental health is not a one-off initiative but an ongoing responsibility that requires compassion, understanding and a culture where people feel comfortable speaking up when they need help.

To launch the campaign, our leadership team shared their commitment to fostering a workplace where wellbeing is a priority, everyone feels valued and support is readily available when it is needed. Every Conversation Matters is an opportunity for us all to reflect on the role we play in creating a culture of openness, compassion and connection, where people feel empowered to speak up, seek support and support one another.

We encourage everyone to take a moment to look after themselves, look out for others, and remember that sometimes the simplest question, "How are you really doing?" can have a powerful impact.

🚧 Laying the foundations for smarter, more resilient wastewater networks 🚧

We are to have completed a comprehensive programme of UMON6 surveys across sites throughout Northumbrian Water's operational area, from Bamburgh to North Yorkshire, for our client Northumbrian Water. As one of three contractors appointed to the programme, we were responsible for surveying 50 sites.

Before any physical works could begin, our team carried out detailed investigations to build a complete understanding of the existing infrastructure, assets and operational arrangements at each location. This critical early-stage work will help inform future network improvements and support UMON6 regulatory requirements.

The surveys covered a wide range of MEICA assets, including:
✅ Control panels and telemetry systems
✅ Remote monitoring equipment
✅ Pipework and flow meters
✅ Rising mains and air valves
✅ Cable routing arrangements

A key focus of the project was identifying suitable locations for the installation of Event Duration Monitoring Systems (EDMs), which help alert Northumbrian Water to potential environmental spills, enabling faster response times and improved operational awareness. We also established locations for forward flow monitors, providing valuable flow data that can be used alongside EDM alerts to help identify the cause of spill events and support informed decision-making.

In addition, the project identified the infrastructure, installation requirements and optimal locations needed to support future integration between field assets and Northumbrian Water's Digital Twin and SCADA systems. The survey findings will inform subsequent phases of the programme, enabling enhanced remote monitoring capabilities, improved visibility of network performance across remote locations and more reliable transmission of operational data.

By establishing these requirements at an early stage, the project is supporting future investment in monitoring infrastructure. Future phases of the UMON6 programme are expected to enhance network resilience, reliability and operational efficiency, contributing to the development of a more robust and future-ready network.
