If you own, lease or manage a shop or retail premises built before 2000, asbestos management should be part of how you look after the property.

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, the dutyholder must take reasonable steps to determine whether asbestos is present, assess its condition and manage the risk appropriately.

Our Director, Andy, recently stayed at a cottage in the Lake District and spotted these old asbestos cement sections amongst a stone wall.

What makes this one particularly interesting is that over the years, a tree has actually grown around and engulfed parts of the asbestos! 🌳😮

It’s a great example of how asbestos-containing materials can remain hidden or forgotten around older properties for decades.

⚠️ If you discover suspected asbestos around your home, land or outbuildings, avoid disturbing it and get professional advice.

How do you carry out an asbestos survey across a 1,600m² engineering site without stopping production? ⚙️👷

Our Briton Engineering case study in Huddersfield shows exactly that. The survey covered offices, workshops, production areas and a mezzanine, with sampling carefully planned around staff and daily operations.

Five materials were sampled, with chrysotile asbestos identified in a woven fuse guard. Rather than unnecessary removal, it could be safely managed, labelled and monitored through annual re-inspections. ✅📋
