Welcome to the team, Jack! 👋

We're delighted to welcome Jack to Abley Letchford as a Principal Engineer.

Jack joins us with 9 years’ experience covering residential, commercial and public sector developments, working with various consultants. His experience includes highways and drainage design, feasibility and due diligence, SuDS, flood risk and utilities, together with preparing detailed designs for Section 38, 278, 104, 106 and S185 approvals. He has managed multiple projects, oversees junior engineers, liaises directly with clients and takes responsibility for programme, project finances, invoicing, variations and quotations. He holds a First Class MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering.

Outside of work, Jack's enjoys watching sport, going to gigs and spending time with his young family.

There's a lot more to a successful development than completing the planning forms.

With wetter conditions on the horizon, now is the time to consider whether groundwater monitoring is required for your site and to support your planning application.

Groundwater data can provide valuable insights to support development planning, drainage design and flood risk assessments. Increasingly, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) are expecting to see at least one full season of groundwater data, even for Outline Planning Applications; if not addressed at the application stage projects may run into problems in addressing planning conditions to meet project programmes. To capture meaningful information during the wetter months, monitoring boreholes need to be installed before winter conditions arrive and to run through from October to March/April.

On a recent project, Abley Letchford worked alongside Omnia Consulting to support North Witney, where groundwater monitoring played an important role in understanding site conditions and informing the wider development strategy.

For many development sites, understanding groundwater behaviour can be the difference between keeping a project on programme and facing unexpected planning or design challenges. Monitoring undertaken during the winter months, typically October to March, provides valuable data to support planning applications, drainage design and risk assessments, allowing developers to make informed decisions and address potential issues before they impact delivery.

A fantastic evening at Bath Rugby on Friday, watching Bath secure a hard-fought 40-34 win over Exeter.

Great to spend time with clients and colleagues, enjoy some excellent hospitality, and witness a game that kept us on the edge of our seats right until the final whistle.
