As we head towards autumn, here are 3 simple things you can do this September:

🌡️ Check your heating controls:
Make sure you know how your thermostat and heating timer work, so you're only heating your home when you need to.

🚪 Find those draughts:
Check around windows, doors and other gaps where heat could escape. Simple draught-proofing can help keep your home feeling warmer.

⚡ Get to know your energy use:
Check your meter or smart meter regularly and start noticing when you're using the most energy. Understanding what you use is the first step towards reducing it.

Small changes now can help you prepare your home for the colder months ahead. 🍂

Here’s a simple midweek way to save money and energy.

🧺 Wash your clothes at 30°C.

For most everyday laundry, washing at 30°C uses less energy than higher temperatures while still getting your clothes clean.

At the very end of 2025 GUCE was lucky enough to receive funding from the Watford Mayor's grant to pay for 200 Energy Saving Kits.

Since then GUCE has run a fortnightly energy clinic at Meriden Community Centre on Friday mornings. This means residents can get their energy questions answered while picking up their food bank parcel or speaking to Priti, Watford's brilliant Healthy Hub officer.

So many questions answered in one place and all designed to make your life easier (and cheaper!).

Not got your free Energy Saving Kit yet? Pop along Friday 21st august or Friday 4th September between 930-1130am to pick it up!

See you there

Looking for a simple way to reduce your energy use this week?
☕ Only boil the water you need.

Whether you're making one cup of tea or filling a saucepan, heating only the amount of water you need uses less electricity or gas and can help keep your energy bills down.

Small changes add up over time.

What's one energy-saving habit you've adopted at home?

Electricity bills are changing this autumn. Here's what you need to know.

From 1 October, VAT will be removed from household electricity bills as part of a government measure to help with the cost of living. The change will be applied automatically, so there's nothing you need to do.

While every saving helps, reducing the amount of electricity you use is still one of the best ways to lower your bills.

Simple changes like switching appliances off at the wall, using LED bulbs and running full loads in your washing machine can all make a difference.

Get in touch with us for advice or help about your energy usage.
