ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) Phase 3 brought some significant changes, but are you making the most of them?

As organisations begin looking ahead to ESOS Phase 4, it's worth revisiting some of the key changes introduced during the current phase:

✔️ Action Plans became mandatory, requiring businesses to outline how they'll implement energy-saving opportunities.

✔️ Progress Updates were introduced, with two board-approved submissions demonstrating what's actually been delivered.

✔️ The de minimis threshold increased, meaning audits must now cover at least 95% of total energy consumption, up from 90%.

✔️ Greater transparency, with Action Plans and Progress Updates published by the Environment Agency.

Perhaps the biggest shift is that ESOS is no longer just about compliance. It's an opportunity to demonstrate progress, strengthen energy management and show stakeholders that your organisation is taking meaningful action.

With the final Phase 3 Progress Update due later this year and Phase 4 just around the corner, now is the ideal time to start planning ahead.

The next ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) deadline is approaching fast…

The final Phase 3 Progress Update must be submitted by 5th December, 2026. Just 26 days later (31st December), organisations reach the Phase 4 qualification date, leaving very little time between closing one phase and preparing for the next.

Intersolar Europe 2026 once again united experts from across the energy sector.
