A warm radiator is a good sign, but it doesn’t always mean the job is finished. 👀

Before a heat pump installation is signed off, there should still be proper checks, a clear explanation of the controls, the right handover records, and a contact for any questions afterwards.

Because getting the system running is one thing. Making sure you understand it and it’s been properly commissioned is another.

Warm is good. Properly commissioned is better.

What would actually make you consider switching to a heat pump? 👀

Everyone’s priorities are different, so we’re curious what matters most to you:

A. Lower running costs

B. Bigger grant support

C. More consistent home comfort

D. A clearer idea of what installation involves

No wrong answer here. We just want to know what would make the biggest difference in your decision.

Drop A, B, C or D in the comments. 👇

A heat pump installation isn’t always as simple as swapping one unit for another. 👀

Depending on the home, work may also be needed on radiators, pipework or the hot water system, which can mean heating or hot water is unavailable for part of the installation.

That’s why it’s worth asking a few practical questions before work starts:

When will the old system be switched off?

How long could heating or hot water be unavailable?

What’s the plan if the work takes longer than expected?

A bit of planning beforehand can make the whole changeover feel a lot smoother.

In July, 8,150 Boiler Upgrade Scheme applications were submitted, up 112% compared with the same month last year and 81% higher than June.

One big reason? More support is now available for eligible off-gas homes, including grants of up to £9,000 for some households switching from oil or LPG.

The numbers show that more homeowners are starting to seriously consider heat pumps as part of the move toward cleaner home heating.

From 1 October, Ofgem’s cap for a typical household paying by Direct Debit is £1,723 a year, up 4% from the previous period. That’s around £60 more per year based on typical usage.

The important bit: the cap doesn’t fix your total bill. What you actually pay still depends on how much energy you use, where you live and your payment method.

Another reminder that understanding your home’s energy use matters more than ever.

Cloudy doesn’t mean switched off. ☁️☀️

Solar panels generate electricity from daylight, so even on grey UK days, they can still be working away in the background.

Output will naturally be lower than on a bright sunny day, but the panels don’t need hot weather to do their job.

A good reminder that solar is about light, not heat.

Heat pump or gas boiler?

The cost comparison is not as simple as electricity versus gas.

A heat pump uses electricity to move heat into your home, while a gas boiler burns fuel to create heat. That means the real difference comes down to system design, efficiency, insulation, tariff and installation quality.

When the setup is right, it can make all the difference.

“MCS certified” sounds reassuring… but certified for what? 👀

Solar PV, battery storage and heat pumps don’t all fall under one single certification scope.

An installer may be approved for one technology but not another, so it’s worth checking the exact scope before you sign anything.

A quick check now can save a much bigger headache later.

Certified doesn’t always mean certified for everything.

South-facing isn’t the only option for solar. ☀️

East and west-facing roofs can still generate plenty of electricity, with generation simply spread differently throughout the day.

Your roof direction is only one part of the picture. Pitch, shading, available space and how you use electricity matter too.

So a roof that doesn’t look “perfect” at first glance might still be worth a closer look.
