This year’s ‘Grow for Good’ Challenge kicked off on October 21st in Embu County, Kenya. 👩🌾
A team of 12 female leaders from the world of food and farming, including Katie Major, our Senior Sustainability and Agricultural Manager, set out to raise awareness and funds for . We were delighted to sponsor the challenge which involved cycling 75km in total 🚴 and volunteering at local farms along the way 🌱 alongside Village-Based Advisors (VBAs) from the charity who play a crucial role in training local farmers on sustainable and regenerative farming practices.
🌾 Day 1: The team got their hands dirty from day one with compost-making and maize planting, gaining first-hand insight into the challenges these farmers face daily.
🌾 Day 2: Katie and the team cycled to Perpetua’s farm, where they learned about her crop diversity and dedication to teaching sustainability. In over 30°C heat, they helped plant maize and w**d cabbage plots, building an even deeper appreciation for the resilience required to run a successful farm.
🌾 Day 3: Cycling through Embu’s bustling centre to visit Juliet, another inspiring VBA, the team helped with her kitchen garden and saw how Farm Africa’s training has empowered her to support her community.
The challenge concluded with a roundtable event in Nairobi, where the team connected with charities and data scientists to discuss regenerative agriculture and ways to empower women in farming.
Thank you to everyone who supported Katie and the on this journey - your donations fuel life-changing work. Every contribution matters! 🙏🏼
