I get asked sometimes why I don't just jet wash cars — it'd be quicker, after all. Truth is, a jet wash strips wax and sealant, forces water into places it shouldn't go, and if the pressure's off even slightly, it can lift trim and badges.

I use a controlled, low-water method with the right products for the panel — safer for the paint, safer for the environment, and it's exactly why the finish lasts longer between valets.

It's a bit more graft on my end, but it's the right way to do it.

With the air con running flat out this month, a musty smell when you first switch it on is really common — it's usually bacteria and damp building up in the evaporator from condensation.

A can of air freshener just masks it, it doesn't fix it. Proper interior sanitising treats the actual air system, not just the fabric, so the smell doesn't just creep back in a week later.

If your car's been smelling a bit off, that's usually the cause — happy to take a look.

Something I see a lot in August — dashboards that have gone dull, faded or even started cracking. It's UV damage, and once it's cracked, there's no undoing it, only slowing it down from there.

A few things that help: parking in the shade where you can, a sunshade on the windscreen, and keeping the plastics properly conditioned rather than leaving them dry.

As part of every interior valet, I treat the dash and trim with a proper UV protectant, not the cheap, greasy stuff that attracts dust. Worth asking about if it's been a while since your last one.

Careful: tree sap isn't just sticky; it's acidic and full of grit. Left on your paintwork, it bonds to the clear coat and can etch in permanently within days, especially in this kind of heat.

The longer it sits, the harder and pricier it is to put right.

If you've noticed sap spots on your bonnet or roof, don't try to scrape it off yourself — message me a photo, and I'll let you know the best way to deal with it.
