CITB estimates that the UK construction workforce will need around 41,200 additional workers every year between 2026 and 2030 — that's roughly 206,000 additional workers over five years.

These are real careers with skills you can take with you for life.
And here's something people sometimes forget:
You don't necessarily need to spend years at university to build a good career.
There are apprenticeships, college courses, industry qualifications and work-based routes into construction. You can learn a trade, get qualified, gain experience and eventually work for yourself — or build your own company.
The demand is there because we're going to need more homes, infrastructure, repairs, maintenance, energy upgrades and major construction projects.
London alone is forecast to need more than 26,500 new construction workers by 2028.
So if you're a parent thinking about your child's future, don't automatically assume university is the only route to a successful career.
A skilled trade can give someone:

✅ A career they can build on
✅ The opportunity to become self-employed
✅ The chance to earn while learning
✅ Skills that can stay valuable for decades
✅ A route into management, engineering or running a business
