Emrys Architects That investment in thought and dialogue and design pays for itself seve We don’t like off-the-peg solutions. We believe in maximising value for money.

EMRYS Architects: Living | Working | Learning The practice is driven by a belief that time spent listening to clients, exploring ideas, on teaching, or learning, is never wasted time. We enjoy working on a broad range of projects – housing, the commercial sector, education and the arts – ranging from tiny one-off interventions to major-mixed use schemes. We develop a bespoke solution for every pro

ject: a response to brief, budget and context and to clients’ and stakeholders’ aspirations and needs. We offer the leadership, empathy and vision required to translate different – and often contradictory – agendas into the best possible results. This rich mix of projects is informed by an over-arching set of beliefs. We believe that buildings should be sustainable in their construction and efficient to run. Just as importantly, we design buildings that will themselves endure: that are flexible and robust with a quality of design, detailing and construction that will withstand the ravages of time. We gain particular satisfaction from adjusting and restoring existing buildings to give them a new lease of life. And while we relish the opportunity of creating standalone modern buildings we believe that the best contemporary architecture establishes a dialogue with the past, conversing with – as opposed to arguing against – the historic context in which it lies. We design buildings that are cost-efficient to build and manage, and we make sure we build them on budget and on time.

Currently on site in Bloomsbury, The Courtyard Building brings together a series of existing buildings through a carefully considered retrofit while introducing a contemporary rooftop extension and renewed roofscape designed for people, planting and shared use.

One of the defining elements of the project is the restoration and repositioning of the historic cupola, returning a distinctive local landmark to prominence while creating new terraces and amenity spaces overlooking the city.

Designed for GPE, the scheme balances retention and renewal - preserving the character of the existing buildings while supporting a more sustainable, flexible and contemporary workplace.

With the recent sunshine, it feels like the perfect time to highlight one of our favourite parts at one of our latest completed projects.

Across the upper levels of , a series of landscaped roof terraces are designed as an integral part of the workplace experience, creating opportunities to step away from the desk, enjoy fresh air and connect with the city. Integrated into the scheme from the outset, they form part of a wider approach to deliver a workplace that balances commercial performance with comfort, flexibility and long-term resilience.

Equipped for year-round use with planting, seating, welfare facilities and smart-enabled awnings, they extend the building’s usable space while offering a calm retreat above the streets of the London.

Last week, Sixty Three Coleman won the Commercial & Retail Award at the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers AI Specification Awards 2026, held in conjunction with Royal Institute of British Architects

Delivered in collaboration with 3V Architectural Hardware Ltd and Forza Doors Ltd, the project was recognised for its restrained and highly considered approach to specification, where detailing, materiality and architectural language were carried consistently throughout the scheme.

Working closely together from an early stage, bespoke push plates and pull handles were developed with soft radius details that echo the curved vision panels across the building. When fire testing requirements challenged the original full-height handle concept, an innovative two-part backplate solution was developed – preserving the design intent while meeting performance requirements.

A fantastic example of collaboration, craft and problem-solving in practice.

Huge thanks to all involved, and congratulations to this year’s winners and shortlisted projects, including 3V Architectural Hardware who took home three awards!

We are delighted to share that Sixty Three Coleman has been shortlisted in the Mix Awards 2026 in the category Project of the Year – Workplace Interiors – 35–70k sq ft 🏆

Since 2005, the Mix Awards have celebrated the very best in commercial design. Judged by a panel of leading experts, they are widely recognised for their independence and influence across the industry.

Set within the Bank Conservation Area in the heart of the City of London, Sixty Three Coleman brings together three existing buildings into a unified workplace shaped by craft, materiality and long-term resilience - from the reception and shared amenities through to end-of-journey facilities and landscaped roof terraces.

A huge thank you to our client CLI Dartriver, the whole Emrys team, and all of the collaborators involved in bringing the project to life 👏

We’re delighted to see Mole House featured in the June 2026 edition (Issue 234) of Homebuilding & Renovating

Working closely with homeowners Amy & Adrian, this was a genuinely collaborative process from the outset. We developed the detailed design of the building envelope and feature staircase, while Adrian led much of the construction and Amy brought the interiors to life – a shared effort that has shaped their family home.

Three barn-like volumes define the scheme, with dark, black-painted timber weatherboarding to the outer forms and a contrasting white central barn. Pitched zinc roofs reference the local agricultural language, reinterpreted in a contemporary way.

A really rewarding project to be part of, and one that reflects the care, time and commitment behind it. Big thanks to Alexandra Pratt for the write up ✍️

Good workplace design starts before you reach the desk.

At Sixty Three Coleman, end-of-journey facilities are designed with the same level of care and attention as the office spaces - supporting how people arrive, move and reset throughout the day.

Generous cycle storage, heated lockers, showers and changing spaces are integrated as part of the building’s wider approach to wellbeing - not as an add-on, but as an essential part of everyday use.

From material choices to detailing, these spaces reflect a consistent design language that runs throughout the building.

On Earth Day, we’re reminded that the most sustainable buildings are often those already standing.

Across our projects, we prioritise adapting and extending the life of existing structures, reducing embodied carbon while creating spaces that are designed to last.

From carefully retained structures to landscape-led design, these decisions may be quiet ones - but together they shape a more responsible built environment.

We’re delighted to unveil the completion of 63 Coleman - a contemporary workplace set within the Bank Conservation Area in the City of London, reimagining three outdated buildings as a coherent whole defined by craft, clarity and long-term resilience.

The retained façade at Coleman Street anchors the scheme in its historic context, while new elevations reinterpret local materials and proportions through a contemporary lens. Inside, generous floorplates, carefully framed views and a rich material palette create a bright, uplifting working environment.

Across the upper levels, a series of stepped terraces introduce planting, fresh air and moments of pause - conceived as integral to the workplace experience rather than an add-on, alongside enhancements to the surrounding public realm.

From façade to interior, the project is shaped by a consistent approach to detail and materiality, with motifs and craft carried throughout to create a workplace that feels both robust and refined.

A real team effort from start to finish - thank you to everyone involved in bringing 63 Coleman to life!

There’s something in the in-between moments - reading through journals, referencing, conversations unfolding across the studio.

And in the moments that follow, as ideas are tested, drawings reviewed and projects begin to take shape.

This is where projects really begin - shaped by observation, discussion and a constant awareness of the wider design world.

Set within our light-filled Farringdon studio, with colour and planting woven throughout, it reflects how we work - open, collaborative and always evolving.

Our very own Rafael, captured on site during the strip-out phase at one of our projects.

Long before this point, the key decisions have been made - what stays, what goes, and what’s worth bringing to the surface. What follows is a careful process of revealing the building as it really is.

There’s a clarity to this stage - where structure, light and material come into focus, and the foundations of the final spaces begin to emerge.
