A study conducted by researchers from Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies' Equine Clinic between 2020 and 2022 with 25 horses participating in the study. The authors of the study are Dana Laizane and Nauris Laizans. The study evaluated the effect of Black Balance on equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS), including both epithelial and glandular stomach ulcers. The dosage used was 1 piece three times a day. The horses were examined on day 0 and at least two more times, between 30 and 90 days after the start of the Black Balance administration, depending on their individual competition schedule. The effect of Black Balance was evaluated through owner, rider, and groom descriptions, clinical examinations, blood tests, and gastroscopy. The study found that the use of Black Balance improved appetite, calmed nervous horses, improved physical condition and hair-coat, reduced eating of sand and faeces, and decreased sensitivity to abdominal palpation. Gastroscopy showed healing of both the squamous and glandular ulcers. There were no changes observed in blood test results, although there were no significant changes before the use of Black Balance. Further investigations could be done to evaluate the effect of Black Balance on faecal egg count, insulin regulation in EMS ponies and horses, and changes in faecal occult blood test findings.
Overall, the study suggests that Black Balance is an effective supplement for the treatment of horses.
