“Water ingress behind cladding, what causes it”
Water ingress behind cladding is one of the most common and costly façade problems in the UK. It is usually caused by incorrect installation of rainscreen systems, poor detailing around openings, inadequate cavity ventilation, missing cavity trays or incompatible fixing systems. When the external wall build-up is not correctly designed, moisture can pe*****te behind the cladding panel and become trapped within the structure.

In London and across the United Kingdom, uncontrolled water ingress can lead to insulation damage, corrosion of fixings, mould growth and long-term structural deterioration. Even high-performance façade boards will fail if drainage gaps, breather membranes or cavity barriers are incorrectly installed.

Non-combustible cladding is required when a building must comply with strict UK fire safety regulations, particularly under Approved Document B. In many residential developments, higher-risk buildings and projects across London subject to detailed inspection, external wall systems must achieve A1 or A2 reaction to fire classification. This requirement applies to façade panels, insulation, cavity barriers and supporting components within rainscreen constructions.

You need non-combustible cladding when developing high-rise residential blocks, refurbishing existing façades, replacing non-compliant materials or preparing for building control approval.
