Before anything else, this post is dedicated to the heroes we lost during the devastating wildfires in Greece. May their sacrifice never be forgotten.
Our deepest respect and gratitude go to the courageous men and women who stood on the front lines—firefighters, Civil Protection personnel, pilots, police officers, local authorities, and especially the thousands of volunteers who rushed toward danger to protect lives, communities, and our natural heritage.
Your courage is what inspires us.
Every exhausting hour you spend on the fireline reminds us why we must keep pushing the limits of technology. Every minute we can save through earlier detection, better situational awareness, and faster decision support may help protect a community, preserve a forest, or even save a life.
That is why, over the past days, while Europe faced wildfire after wildfire, our team at Prometheus Space Technologies operated around the clock.
Our primary pilot in the North-East Aegean became our living laboratory, but our eyes never left the rest of Europe. Every new ignition, every satellite pass, and every detection became another opportunity to test, validate, and improve the future of wildfire intelligence.
Here is what we learned:
🔥 We observed virtually every ignition within minutes.
Our objective has never been to simply detect fires. It is to detect them before they become disasters. Throughout this operational period, we validated remote detection times approaching 10 minutes, while our multi-sensor fusion architecture demonstrated the path toward sub-10-minute detection.
🛰️ Prevention became measurable.
Our ignition prediction capabilities highlighted emerging incidents before they evolved, proving that prevention is becoming an operational reality.
🌍 The Common Operational Picture became real.
By fusing satellite observations, ignition intelligence, weather, land cover, fire risk, and operational data, we are transforming information into actionable intelligence.
🤝 Technology served communities.
In several cases, we proactively informed mayors and local authorities about new ignitions within their municipalities, helping accelerate awareness and response.
Every incident strengthened our models. Every validation improved our confidence. Every operational hour brought us closer to a future where emergency services are informed within minutes—not hours.
The greatest tribute we can offer those who stand on the front lines is to give them better tools, earlier warnings, and more time.
Because every minute matters. And every minute we gain can save lives.

WELCOME TO THE PROMETHEUS COMMON OPERATIONAL PICTURE

Every wildfire starts with a single moment. The difference between a contained incident and a catastrophe is often measured in minutes.

At Prometheus Space Technologies, we've built an intelligence platform designed to make those minutes count.

Our NE Aegean Pilot doesn't just detect fires—it identifies where a fire is most likely to start. Using AI and Earth Observation, we continuously analyse land cover, fuel characteristics, vegetation, weather and terrain to explain why a specific location presents a high ignition risk.

Once a potential ignition is identified, our multi-orbital satellite intelligence scans the region every 10 minutes, combining multiple satellite sources to detect the ignitions that matter most.

As an event unfolds, Prometheus delivers a continuously updated Common Operational Picture, including fire detections, environmental intelligence, spread-rate predictions and operational updates every 10 minutes—giving responders the information they need to know where to go, why, and what will happen next.

This is more than fire detection.

It's predictive wildfire intelligence, transforming satellite data into actionable decisions that help emergency services act earlier, smarter and with greater confidence.

See Earlier. Understand Deeper. Respond Smarter.

We are watching what’s coming… in real time.

And for the first time, we’re not just observing it — we’re understanding it.

With Prometheus, we’ve reached a point that once felt impossible: tracking extreme weather as it forms and evolves, before it ever reaches us.
That means less surprise. More time. Real preparedness.

This isn’t technology for show.
This is technology with responsibility.

Because every minute gained can mean:
a life protected,
a home saved,
a community that stands strong.

And this is only the beginning.

Do you believe we can get to a point where disasters are prevented before they even strike?

Attention: Increased landslide risk today

According to alerts monitored through the Prometheus Global Guardian platform, an increased risk of landslides is observed today in parts of the Mediterranean, with particular focus on:

Chalkidiki, Greece

Dodecanese Islands, Greece

Sicily, Italy (where a landslide is already occurring, with evacuations underway)

Persistent and intense rainfall has saturated the ground, which may trigger sudden landslides, especially on slopes and near road networks.

If you are in mountainous or steep areas:

avoid unnecessary travel

follow instructions from local authorities

stay informed through official sources

Prevention saves lives.

Winter Weather Impact Update: U.S. Faces Widespread Disruption

As of late January 2026, large portions of the U.S. are under Winter Storm Warnings, Watches, and Advisories, with the Northeast, Midwest, and Great Lakes regions facing the brunt of snowstorms, lake-effect snow, and snow squalls.

Key Highlights:
West Michigan: 1.07M residents impacted, up to 7” snow, hazardous lake-effect bands.
Northeast Ohio: 2.89M people at risk; slippery roads from 1–4” lake-effect accumulation.
Western NY: Wind gusts of 40+ mph + 9” snow = severe visibility issues.
Northern NY & Fulton County: Up to 7–10” snow + 1"/hr rates = high-impact travel disruptions.
Southeastern MA (Offshore Islands): Wind gusts up to 40 mph + 10” snow forecasted.

What's Driving the Threat?
The combined effect of Arctic air, moisture from the Great Lakes and Atlantic, and fast-moving systems has triggered:
Localised snow squalls
Persistent lake-effect snow bands
Multi-day accumulations exceeding 15” in some areas (e.g., coastal Maine)

Infrastructure at Risk:
Over $1.2 Trillion USD in infrastructure currently lies within storm-affected zones.
Travel, energy, and emergency services face increasing strain, especially in rural and lake-adjacent areas.

What This Signals:
The economic cost of localised snow events continues to rise, demanding more real-time data integration across weather, transport, and utility systems.

Preparedness messaging must account for hyper-local threats (e.g., squalls vs. widespread storms).

As climate patterns shift, event unpredictability grows — reinforcing the need for proactive, precision-level forecasting and cross-agency collaboration.

How is your organisation preparing for or responding to these localised, high-impact winter events?
