A few members of the Firstco team have been developing their networking skills this week through the Cisco Networking Academy - Implementing and Administering Cisco Solutions (CCNA) training!

The course covers everything from IPv4 and IPv6 to routers, switches, VLANs, routing and network cybersecurity.

As one of the team put it:

“I found the training really useful and enjoyable. The practical labs were particularly helpful, as they allowed me to put the theory into practice and gain hands-on experience configuring, managing and troubleshooting network equipment. And the view from the training room wasn’t bad either!”

It’s great to see our engineers continuing to build their knowledge and practical skills in areas that are increasingly important across the critical infrastructure projects we deliver.

Happy International Youth Day!🌍

At Firstco, we believe that giving young people the opportunity to experience the world of work can make a real difference.

That’s why we welcome students from school, sixth form, college and university to join us for work experience/placement years, giving them the chance to meet our team, explore different roles, get involved in real projects and discover what engineering is.

Here's what some of them had to say:

💬 Amnah, a Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering student from university, said:

“This experience has shown me the importance of having a problem-solving mindset, as there is rarely a single solution to any challenge in the engineering industry.”

💬 Dasha, a sixth-form student hoping to study Mathematics at university, spent five days with us and described her placement as:

“A valuable experience that allowed me to get a feel for an office work environment.”

💬 Riya, a Year 11 student studying GCSE Physics and Computer Science, spent a week with us learning about PLCs, SCADA and the different roles across Firstco and described her experience as:

“It’s made me even more excited about the possibility of working in engineering in the future.”

Whether someone is interested in engineering, technology, business, marketing, finance or project management, giving young people the opportunity to ask questions, get involved and experience a professional environment can help them make more informed decisions about what comes next.

So, on International Youth Day, we’re proud to continue opening our doors to the next generation!

A few weeks ago, some members of the Firstco team attended Siemens Transform 2026 in Manchester!

The two days covered industrial AI, digital twins, OT cybersecurity and critical energy infrastructure, which are topics that closely align with the work we deliver every day at Firstco.

It was also great to see LIVE demonstrations of how connected data, automation and intelligent systems are helping organisations.

Not every project we work on is defined by targets, deadlines and deliverables.

Sometimes, the most meaningful impact comes from giving our time to support local community projects.

Yesterday, some of us at Firstco stepped away from our desks and spent the day volunteering at Spitalfields City Farm, a fantastic charity and two-acre community space in the heart of London!

During our time at the farm, we supported a range of activities to help maintain and improve the site. This included general garden and pathway maintenance, such as weeding, wood chipping, sowing seeds, planting bulbs, pruning fruit trees, and harvesting crops.

We also helped care for the animals through grooming and feeding, as well as managing muck heaps and mucking out paddocks and stables!

At Firstco, we're passionate about delivering critical infrastructure that powers the future, but we are also really passionate about the importance of investing in the communities around us.

A huge thank you to everyone at Spitalfields City Farm for welcoming us, sharing the incredible work you do and giving us the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution.

We recently hosted our annual Firstco Summer Party, bringing colleagues together for an afternoon of games, creativity and great conversations!

We started with some light sports and painting in the park before heading to a restaurant garden for food and drinks - it was a brilliant day from start to finish.

At Firstco, we know that great teams are built on more than just the work we do. Creating opportunities to connect, have fun and spend time together is an important part of our culture.

A huge thank you to our Social Committee for organising fantastic monthly events that give everyone the chance to enjoy time together throughout the year.

We're proud to champion a workplace where women can build rewarding careers across critical infrastructure projects, develop specialist technical expertise, take on complex engineering challenges, and progress into senior and leadership roles.

We also organise dedicated women's networking and social events throughout the year, helping to build a strong community across our business.

We are also proud partners of the WES Women's Engineering Society, supporting their mission to help women in engineering by attending and speaking at their events.

We had a great time exhibiting at the STEM Careers Showcase yesterday at Cranfield University!

It was fantastic connecting with talented MSc and PhD students, graduates, and researchers across disciplines, including AI & robotics, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, defence and engineering.

Our team was on campus to share more about career opportunities at Firstco and the work we deliver in control and communication systems for airports, rail stations, data centres, battery storage facilities, and other mission-critical infrastructure.

A big thank you to the Careers Employer Engagement Team at Cranfield for hosting such a well-organised event.
