We’ve been out. Visited a good sized skate park. Measured it. Came back to Surbiton and measured out the park here too…

A skate park would comfortably fit within Alexandra park, and could be positioned in multiple areas within the park.

But there’s other parks too.

As we approach the end of summer, proactive planning could make way investment in facilities like this for Summer 2027.

Would a skate park fit in Alexandra park? Measuring wheel at the ready, let’s find out…

Elmbridge opened their fourth skate park this week. Meanwhile, despite raising over £145 million through council tax alone; Kingston is lagging far behind in free public facilities for kids between 8 and 16.

How many people will be loading up their cars to drive out of the borough when entertaining their kids? Whilst measures are being put in place all over the borough to encourage greener methods of transport.

Give people a reason to stay local.

Andy Burnham announced the “Trusted builders register” today…

Some well needed regulation on the building industry or another cash cow for the UK government? Only time will tell.

The US has a contractor permit scheme where people have to prove competency before they can undertake construction projects, something like that would be great; but is that what they’re introducing?

Clients can store their money in the governments new platform, which then gets sent to the builder once work is complete to a satisfactory standard.

What happens when there’s a disagreement? Does someone from the governments new scheme come out, assess the work and mediate? How long does it take them to come out? At the moment I can’t get a response from elected officials or any government organisation.

This industry is riddled with rogue traders, but due diligence from clients can save a whole lot of heartache.

Look for a local builder, look at their portfolio, look them up on companies house, see how long they’ve been trading, see if the director has 10+ dissolved companies.

The fact is, everyone is more price conscious and often people are lured in by a cheap quote, sometimes from companies that are based miles away from the project. Then, when they disappear; there’s no way to find or contact them. It’s a civil matter and no one can help.

Personally, I think this is another way for the UK government to get a slice of the pie and if not, then registering should be free. The construction industry is one of the biggest tax contributors to the UK economy and doesn’t need another tax.

Rant over. Enjoy your bank holiday weekend 🫡👷🏻‍♂️☀️

How much space do we need for a skate park in Surbiton? 🤔

It’s more than a splash pad, but less than a cycle lane 🫣

Either way, we need both.. 🫡

Since starting our campaign to improve free public facilities available to us in Surbiton/ Kingston, we’ve had a tonne of support, including locally elected councillors.

If you want to get involved let us know! ✅

How many times have you loaded the kids into the car and driven to a different borough because you don’t have the facilities you need on your door step? 🫣

We need more investment in our local areas besides cycle lanes, housing and new pathways.

We need splash pads & skate parks 🫡

More on your doorstep = Less reasons to travel ✅

If we’ve undertaken a project for you. You’ll know Sean. Next year will be his tenth anniversary here and he’s recently made the jump to helping manage jobs and working in the office… 👏

Here’s what he had to say about his first month in a new role! 🤩👷🏼‍♂️👨🏼‍💻

It’s almost six months since I first began contacting local councillors regarding the idea of putting a skate park in Surbiton, Their responsiveness has been underwhelming 🫣

Millions of £’s have been invested in our roads to create cycle lanes and reduce traffic, but nothing has been done to help us stay local.

I contacted them long before we experienced this years heatwave ☀️🥵

A heatwave and school holidays have been a stark reminder of how badly the facilities in the borough are lacking…

Elmbridge- 2 splash pads
Merton- 2 splash pads
Kingston- 0 splash pads

We have an overwhelming number of families living in the borough yet the facilities, especially for those aged 8 and above are well behind.

Let’s reduce the traffic in our borough by giving people facilities on their doorstep that prevent them having to drive everywhere they go ✅

Let’s take a break from digging up roads to reduce traffic and start by giving people more locally ✅

Prevention is better than cure
