Riney has recently delivered 3 Safety Stand Down days. Our dedication to enhancing safety throughout our business remains unwavering. The opportunity gave all staff and contracts to have sight of our continuing focus and vision for safety and wellbeing, as part of working together. These days are of utmost importance for our success in this field, as they allow us to prioritise and address safety.

The main points highlighted during the discussion on the SSD were promoting Step In opportunities, impowering individuals to raise concerns and provide them with the necessary tools and delegated authority to do so. Another topic discussed was the CRH initiative called Stop and Think, which urges individuals to reflect on their actions and decisions, before actions are undertaken, even when it is challenging to do so. Lastly, the importance of wellbeing was emphasised, with a detailed forum providing valuable statistics and ideas on how individuals can monitor and take care of their health. It was highlighted that each person's well-being is vital, and prioritising self-care ultimately benefits the entire team. A remarkable turnout of over 300 Riney employees and contractors participated, and we were delighted with the positive response. We look forward to more safety stand downs in the future.

On the morning of Friday 23rd, at 5:45am, Danny was driving to the Riney Depot when he noticed an alarming sight. As he passed through Bourne Vale, Hayes, Bromley, he spotted thick, black smoke billowing out from the back of a property. Acting swiftly and without hesitation, Danny immediately assessed the situation and jumped into action.

Danny discovered that the conservatory was engulfed in flames. While at the front, Danny noticed a stairlift, raising his concerns even further. Realising that there might be someone inside who was less able to escape. Danny pounded on the door and loudly shouted through the letterbox, hoping to alert anyone inside to the danger.

He wasted no time and immediately called for assistance while bravely attempting to combat the fire using a garden hose. Thankfully, the sound of Danny's cry for help reached the ears of the neighbours who came to lend a hand. Together, they managed to rescue a 91-year-old woman from the property and handed Danny a second hose to help battle the flames.

Thanks to Danny's quick thinking and decisive actions, he was able to successfully control and extinguish the fire before the arrival of the fire brigade. The fire brigade confirmed that if the fire had lasted just five more minutes, there would have been a tragic loss of life. Undoubtedly, Danny's rapid response played a crucial role in saving a life. His outstanding efforts not only reflect positively on our company, but also highlight his invaluable contributions to the local community.

When asked about his courageous actions, Danny humbly replied, "I stopped and accessed the situation. My priority was to put out the fire and call for help in case someone was trapped inside. Fortunately, no one was harmed, and that's the most important thing."

Danny was welcomed by Peter and the entire Riney team on Tuesday morning, who expressed their congratulations for his courageous acts. We want to express our gratitude to Danny for his bravery, his fast response, and, above all, for saving the life of a member of the public. His selfless and heroic actions make us proud to call him one of our own.

Riney participated in the Mini Tour de Waltham Forest in partnership with the Sustainable Transport team at Waltham Forest Council. As part of our participation we ran HGV road safety awareness sessions with 20 schools as part of the activities. Pupils and teachers were able to sit in the vehicle highlighting potential danger zones.

The Mini Tour de Waltham Forest was a great opportunity for Riney to engage with the local community and promote road safety. We are committed to ensuring the safety of all road users, and by participating in events like this, we hope to raise awareness and encourage safer behaviour on the roads.

Riney are proud to announce the completion of Erith High Street Scheme. The project aimed to install a new drainage system and regenerate Erith High Street with granite paving, soft landscaping, road marking, and signs. The Suds system prevents flooding from high tides from the River Thames and has a capacity of 21,6000 Litres. The project faced challenges such as severe weather conditions, accommodating trees and minimising disruption. The renovation included 340m2 of new granite paving, 370m of new granite kerbs, 270m2 of permeable tegula paving, and 2500m2 of resurfacing.

Last Friday the Riney team met with the London Borough of Waltham Forest team for a number of conversations and work shops. The topics varied but included collaborative working, understanding challenges and objectives and sharing best practices. These talks were incredibly valuable and we thoroughly enjoyed building new and existing relationships. This was an open forum with healthy discussions regarding highways and maintenance in the borough. We look forward to the next one

Oakleigh Park Carpark Scheme. Riney were acting on behalf of TKJV to deliver these works as the delivery partner in the London Borough of Barnet. We were engaged through the framework agreement to deliver these works which included the development of an old yard into a state of the art depot. This area includes the future proofing of electrical vehicles with particular thought put into how the service can reach a zero carbon emission in the near future. The area helps continue the further development and future proofing of London Borough of Barnet delivering a quality service for the residents within the Borough.

There was a tight timescale in order to make sure the service was able to operate and deliver the valued service it delivers to the residents of the wider Barnet area. This meant that the area was isolated from the rest of the depot and logistically this was a challenge that was overcome with TKJV and the service working together to develop a works programme that was feasible for all parties to complete this with as little disruption as possible.
