📢 The CIBSE Economic Life Expectancy Tables 2026 are now available.

The latest edition introduces enhanced alignment with key industry data standards, providing a common data structure to support life-cycle costing, asset management and digitalisation across building engineering services.

For the first time, the tables have also been expanded to include catering, healthcare and vertical transportation assets, alongside a new variation factoring tool to help users generate more accurate, real-world estimates of asset service life.

Developed through collaboration with RICS, BESA Group and SFG20, the updated tables will support better-informed maintenance planning, improved asset performance and more effective life-cycle decision-making across the built environment.

Appointed at CIBSE’s Annual General Meeting in June, 2026-2027 CIBSE President Dave Cooper continues to highlight the importance of designing for a changing climate while reducing operational carbon.

His theme, “Future-proofing through resilience”, emphasises data-driven, climate-informed design as a foundation for the future of the built environment.

“As our climate continues to change, building engineers must design for these future conditions, drawing on robust climate projections such as CIBSE’s Weather Data Set… This enables the creation of resilient buildings where people can remain safe, comfortable and enjoy a good quality of life.”

This week, 2026–2027 CIBSE President Dave Cooper met with Saul Humphrey, President of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), for lunch and a valuable conversation about some of the key opportunities and challenges facing our industry.

Their discussion covered skills shortages and the need to develop the next generation of professionals, opportunities for greater collaboration across the industry, overheating in buildings, and the security and resilience of utilities. They also explored how collaboration, underpinned by shared trust and common values, can help us address these challenges and secure better outcomes for everyone.

No single organisation can tackle these challenges alone. By working together, sharing expertise and strengthening connections across the built environment, we can help create a more resilient, sustainable and better-performing future.
