Valencia Parque Central wins Design for a Large Scale Development Award at LI Awards 2019

This year, the Landscape Institute celebrated its 90th anniversary with a memorable awards evening and keynote speech from Sir David Attenborough. From a selection of three finalists, Parque Central was awarded the Design for a Large Scale Development prize.

Learn more about the completed first phase of Valencia Parque Central at designboom. The project is a World Architecture Festival finalist, nominated in the Urban Landscape category. It is also nominated for two Landscape Institute : the Dame Sylvia Crowe Award for Outstanding Contribution to People, Place and Nature, and the award for best large-scale landscape development. Award winners will be announced in late November/early December.

In October Kazan (Russia) will host a world-scale event, the World Urban Parks Congress, which is to take place from October 18 to October 20. The main topic of the 2019 Congress is "Parks and Cities — Development for Environmental Sustainability and Health of Citizens". The program includes more than 30 sessions,120 speakers’ presentations, among which there are world stars of the premium size:

■ doctor Kiat W. Tan, Former CEO, Corporate Advisor, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore;
■ Ken Smith, Principal, KEN SMITH WORKSHOP, United States;
■ Tanya Müller García, Founding director, World Urban Parks Former Secretary of Environment in Mexico city, Mexico;
■ Henri Bava, Landscape architect and urbanist, co-founder and chairman, Agence Ter, France;
■ Mary Bowman, Partner, Gustafson Porter + Bowman, United Kingdom.

Сергей Георгиевский (Sergei Georgievskii), CEO of the Agency for Strategic Development "CENTER", will take part in the business program of the Congress. As an expert in the field of territory development he is going to give his speech in the session "The face of a city, the face of a region. How parks turn into tourist attractions". It will take place on October 19 from 10:00 am to 11:15 a.m. In addition, Sergey will take part in the educational track of the Ministry of Construction of Russia, which will be dedicated to the All-Russian competition for the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment in small cities and historical settlements. This track is going to be held within the framework of WUP Congress.

Mary Bowman will travel to Russia at the end of this week to attend the annual World Urban Parks Congress as a keynote speaker, sharing her perspectives on sustainable development. After a successful congress in Melbourne, Australia last year, World Urban Parks Congress 2019 is being curated by Moscow-based urban designers Citymakers in the host city of Kazan on the Volga river in the Republic of Tatarstan.
