A team of us were shown around the new SPEC (School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science) at the University of Hertfordshire last week. ADP were appointed to take forward this major landmark project from Stage 3+ from an original design by . A month or so away from completion, it’s really taking shape and the spaces are coming to life. Also a great time to visit as the façade is near completion, but not quite, meaning the exposed parts offered insight into the mechanics behind it all.

We’re looking forward to seeing  it full of people and (unpacked) furniture in a couple of months time when the students arrive in September. Thanks to & Infrastructure for the tour.

Located in an open parkland setting between Abingdon and Witney, Cokethorpe School’s Sports Pavilion is an essential part of the schools sporting facilities.

Completed as part of a masterplan which has been developed for over 20 years with the school, the pavilion provides a robust changing facility in a sensitive setting whilst promoting sports and wellbeing to the wider school community.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is , putting a spotlight on pay transparency. According to gender equality charity the Fawcett Society, the UK’s overall mean gender pay gap for full-time hourly rate is 11.3%, and the median is 8.3%. We are pleased to be able to demonstrate that in 2022 we reduced our mean gender pay gap from 13% to 8%, and our median from 14% to 4%.

While we know we still have work to do, we are now committed to measuring this figure annually and our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion group is working on initiatives to ensure the gap continues to close.

(The ADP figures include both full-time and part-time staff working their normal hourly wage).

Last week we celebrated our first ever Inclusion Week! Across the practice employees came together to share food with a particular meaning to them, from Bulgarian banitsa to za’atar manakish.

We also heard from about their amazing work making public spaces more inclusive for teenage girls, and even shared some of the languages we speak across ADP in a studio language exchange!

Now in its sixth year, the Gingerbread City champions sustainable design ideas whilst putting an exciting new twist on the traditional gingerbread house. This year, our London studio have designed and built their own composition.

Titled ‘Honeycomb Houses’ the entry is a collection of terrace houses, a community greenhouse and a ski slope. Included in the design are integrated fish drying facilities, which help to form a self-sufficient Arctic community for researchers and visitors.

Organised annually by the Museum of Architecture, the exhibition is open to the public until the 2nd January and supports the Museum’s grant-giving fund.
