As part of our campaign, we’re proud to spotlight the incredible work of Huntly Sports Trust - a local organisation transforming access to sport, fitness and wellbeing for people of all ages.

Thanks to the Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund (alongside support from local partners), Huntly Sports Trust has completely transformed its outdated all-weather pitch into a modern, energy-efficient and fully accessible sports hub.

Now in daily use by local schools, rugby clubs, youth teams and athletes, the upgraded facility features:

✅ FIFA-approved 3G surface
✅ Modern LED floodlighting
✅ Open 7 days a week to the whole community.

Backed by the Community Benefit Fund linked to Clashindarroch Wind Farm and supported by Vattenfall, this project shows how renewable energy investment can help create inclusive spaces, strengthens wellbeing and supports long-term community regeneration.

Because it’s not just about generating energy, it’s about empowering people.

As part of our campaign, we’re proud to share the story of Gordon Rural Action and their vital Baby Bank service in Huntly, made possible with support from the Clashindarroch Wind Farm Community Fund.

The Baby Bank provides free essential items for families with young children, from prams and highchairs to nappies, clothing and toiletries, helping remove financial pressure at what can be an incredibly challenging time.

Community funding played a crucial role during Gordon Rural Action’s recent building works, ensuring services could continue uninterrupted while facilities were improved for the future.
This is what community investment looks like in action: practical support, delivered locally, changing lives every day.

Consent has been granted for Clifton Marsh Solar Farm near Preston, Lancashire. This 49.9 MW project will produce enough electricity for around 14,000 UK homes every year.

Beyond renewable energy, the project will also deliver biodiversity benefits through habitat creation.

2025 marks 10 years since Vattenfall’s Clashindarroch Wind Farm began generating renewable energy. To celebrate, we’re sharing stories that highlight the people, projects, and places behind its legacy.

One of these stories focuses on biodiversity and our decade-long efforts to protect and restore the land around the wind farm.

Guided by our Habitat Management Plan, we’ve restored peat bogs, planted native broadleaf trees, and maintained open moorland - bringing benefits for wildlife including insects, birds, and small mammals.

As part of our 10 Years, 10 Stories campaign, we’re proud to share how the Clashindarroch Wind Farm has been supporting communities here in the Cabrach over the past decade.

One of those stories is the Cabrach Picnic & Games – now a much-loved highlight of the summer calendar.

🎶🏆 From the Huntly Pipe Band, to the Highland Games competitions, Highland dancing, and the Historic Trophy presentation, the day was full of tradition, pride and community spirit.

Vattenfall was delighted to sponsor this year’s event through the Clashindarroch community fund, helping make sure it continues to thrive for years to come.

But the Picnic is just one part of what we’re supporting. Over the past 10 years, funding from Clashindarroch has also gone towards woodland walks, riverbank restoration, heritage and wellbeing projects – all helping to rejuvenate the area and support local wildlife.

Because for us, renewable energy isn’t just about powering homes, it’s about powering communities, nature and traditions too.
