There is a particular kind of exhaustion that anyone who has sat inside a Health Technology Assessment (HTA) process will recognize.🥴

It is not the exhaustion of not knowing enough.

These are brilliant people; clinicians, researchers, evidence scientists who have spent careers building expertise that genuinely matters. The exhaustion comes from translating that expertise into formats that were never designed with them in mind.

From unstructured data reviewed at volume.
From outputs that should be consistent but aren’t, because two reviewers read the same document differently on different days‼️

The compliance burden in HEOR and HTA has always been more about the scaffolding around it i.e. the standardisation, the audit trail, the ability to say with confidence that “this is what we found, this is how we found it, and it will hold”.

That scaffolding has historically been built by hand.
Slowly.
Inconsistently.
At considerable cost to the people doing the building.🤦‍♂️
