Happy International Women In Engineering Day!
Today we want to celebrate some of our favourite engineering champions:

⭐ Deepika Kurup: The Indian-American scientist and inventor whose low-cost purification system uses solar energy to make contaminated water safe to drink.

⭐ Hedy Lamarr: The American inventor and actress whose work laid the foundation for technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

⭐ Lin Lanying: The Chinese electrical engineer, material scientist, and physicist who revolutionised the manufacturing of monocrystalline silicon. She is also known as the “mother of aerospace materials and semiconductor materials”.

⭐ Lucy Hughes: The British product designer who developed a way to produce bioplastic using by-products of the fishing industry.

⭐ Mary Jackson: The American NASA mathematician and aerospace engineer who made significant contributions to America’s space program. She was a trailblazer also in breaking down barriers of segregation and gender bias in the field of engineering, ensuring equal opportunities for future generations.

In the UK, just 16.5% of engineers are female. This highlights the importance of encouraging and welcoming women in this area. Industry leaders also emphasise the huge opportunities in emerging sectors like renewable energy, to actively shape the market and its culture.
