Our Foundations
With an avid interest in disruptive technologies, Fiona Strens wanted to contribute to the dialog that was forming the data-driven innovations of the contemporary world. Her main motivation was to learn about and ensure, the protection of public safety. Strens spent the first 10 years of her career in the Ministry of Defence. She managed International Governmental and Industrial projects, serving in Ministers’ Offices before becoming the Director of Science and Technology Policy supporting the Chief Scientific Adviser. Following from her involvement in the MOD, Strens then co-founded Secure Futures, to develop technological and industrial strategies for government agencies and major corporates. In 2009, Strens co-founded CrowdVision Ltd with Dr Anders Johansson
In 2007 Dr Anders Johansson, co-founder and of CrowdVision, was commissioned by the Saudi Arabian Government to develop innovative video-based crowd analytics with the aim to minimise chance of harm and ensure public safety to those participating in the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah (Mecca). Following the success of Mecca, Johansson submitted his doctoral thesis on Data-Driven Modelling of Pedestrian Crowds and was awarded the Global Security Challenge in 2008. Following this success, CrowdVision was formed.
