Swinging into Action for Charity!

We were proud to support the Annual Charity Golf Day at Burstead Golf Club in aid of Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

Our Managing Director, Mark Downey, and Senior Surveyor, Jason Bates, joined fellow local businesses and our clients from the University of Cambridge for a fantastic day of golf, networking, and fundraising. The event raised approximately £10,000 to help support families affected by childhood cancer.

For more than 30 years, Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund has provided invaluable emotional and financial support to children with cancer and their families, making a real difference during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Mark commented: “Although our golf was average, the BBQ afterwards was great!”

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in organising and supporting such a worthwhile event.

Supporting the Demelza Charity Through a Community Charity Auction

Our Contracts Manager Paul Adams recently hosted an auction and raffle in support of Demelza Hospice Care for Children - who provide specialist expert clinical care to children and young people with serious or life-limiting conditions. Kirkman and Jourdain donated a pair of Tottenham Hotspur hospitality tickets which were snapped up by Jessica Reynolds for £750 as a Father’s Day gift for her dad — a lifelong Spurs supporter.

Paul told Jessica that her father would love the experience, especially with Spurs legends Pat Jennings and Martin Chivers hosting the hospitality event, but Jessica admitted she’d never heard of either of them!

Thank you to everyone who supported the evening, an incredible £15,000 was raised for the Demelza charity.

Construction and Conservation, Hand in Hand

We’re currently carrying out boundary wall restoration works at St Nicholas Church within a protected conservation area. Following a structural engineer’s report commissioned by Stevenage Borough Council, we were appointed to carefully dismantle and rebuild a 30m unsafe wall between the church grounds and neighbouring residential property.

The works include:
• Making safe and dismantling the existing wall
• Hand excavation to protect tree roots
• Installing new concrete foundations
• Rebuilding using reclaimed original bricks wherever possible

With conservation approvals, matching materials, and protected trees all requiring careful consideration, this project is a great example of construction working alongside heritage preservation.

Rapid Response and Outstanding Teamwork in Action!

Huge thanks to our Contracts Manager Mike Carter and Carpenter and Multi-trade Operative Mick Gamon, and the wider team, for their outstanding support last week.

After an urgent call from our client’s A&E Team regarding a critical issue that couldn’t wait until the next day, Mike and Mick responded immediately - even though they had already left site and arrived home.
Without hesitation, they returned to investigate and support the rectification works. Within just 20 minutes, both were back on site and working to help resolve the issue.
No delays, no questions—just a clear commitment to getting things done.

The client commented:
“This is a great example of the value MTC contractors bring to MSE sites—their expertise, responsiveness, and understanding of systems and people makes a real difference. Their support is hard to measure, but very easy to appreciate.”

This level of dedication and commitment is reflected across all our sites, and we are extremely proud of our Site Management and Delivery teams.

Matt’s London Marathon Success!

Huge congratulations to our colleague Matt on completing the London Marathon yesterday!

Matt completed the 26.2 mile course in 5 hours and 11minutes. He shared that 'it was a real struggle in the heat and with cramp but he was delighted to have finished!'

This achievement is even more meaningful as Matt ran to raise money for ‘Ambitious about Autism’ — a cause very close to his heart. His son Rory is autistic, and Matt’s efforts are helping support autistic children and young people, ensuring they have the opportunities and support they need to thrive.

Kirkman and Jourdain were proud to sponsor Matt and cheer him on every step of the way. If you’d like to support Matt and this incredible cause, you can still donate here: https://2026tcslondonmarathon.enthuse.com/pf/matthew-baxter

From roof garden to reclaimed masterpiece!

During decking refurbishment works at the Andrew Huxley roof garden for UCL, our Site Manager Tom Tierney rescued sections of beautiful Iroko timber that were destined for disposal. The boards were restored, reworked and crafted into a stunning table for the Division of Biosciences.

A second life for a remarkable hardwood—and a great example of sustainability in action.
