We recently supported a modern merchant bank that used to occupy three central London workspaces and now only occupies two. Rather than downsizing, taking on more floor space or cramming people in like sardines, this client redefined its work processes and saved £1.3m a year in rent while successfully providing a greater experience for its employees, customers and clients.

Ideas thrive in agile working zones while on the same floor, someone is deep in focus in a small library room. People recharge around the tea point or take their beverage (or work) to a soft seating booth. However people feel comfortable working, there’s a space.

It is and we are revisiting an old favourite of ours: Chiswick Park I.

One half of Chiswick Park I is a clean, contemporary office. Sleek lines and slick finishes frame a productive office layout.

The other half is raw. Exposed services complement unfinished materials and moody textures. It’s on the cusp of unconventional, like you took a wrong turn in West London and ended up in a Brick Lane warehouse.

One of the best things about working repeatedly with Landlords is watching a building transform floor by floor each time we are appointed. We have recently been appointed for the second time at One Smarts place for AXA so we wanted to take a look back at what we created last time we got the opportunity to work in that space.

Warm and welcoming, the pastel colour palette and abundance of greenery instantly puts you at ease. Swipe to take a look around or follow the link to see more. https://thirdway.com/project/one-smarts-place

It's that time again - SPORTS DAY!!

Last month we took part in Thirdway sports day for the first time in two years! This year we didn't let a little rain get in our way. 160 of us turned out to battle the elements (and each other). Congrats to the winning team, and commiserations to everyone else - there's always next year!

"The client has brought back an old friend to the Clerkenwell neighbourhood. There is a buzz now sitting in St John’s square, in one of the French Bistro Chairs. The dark green woven vinyl matching the new exterior and to the back of the building the Deli with its bottle green tiles and Victorian patterned counter. We worked with the client to curate a soft but elegant palette. Bauwerk paint was used on the walls and ceilings, the dust pink used as a backdrop to enhance the Guatemala marble on the bar. We wanted to soften the bar and designed a scallop detail to the bar front with white mosaic tiles. Behind the bar an antiqued mirror reflets the light from the scallop shell wall light and at night serves to create depth in the space.

The bistro curtains create a cocoon to the restaurant and by night the large windows with the soft fabric glowing from the warm lights inside create an inviting view from the street.

The rich green tone runs throughout the restaurant in the upholstery of the banquette and the green leather of the chairs. We sourced a velvet fabric from Beata Hueman for the brass bar stools and also included bespoke round cushions for the banquette.

The antique lighting was sourced from a local store in Hackney. The glass and brass pendants and ribbed wall lights make the restaurant aglow at night.

Reclaimed herringbone timber flooring was installed, a sympathetic style to the buildings origins and creating beautiful movement as you move across the floor.

In the bathrooms we used a more modern aesthetic, with black walls and ceilings and glowing brass bulbs. The cast concrete basins in orange adds a playful vibrant contrast." - Senior Designer Flora Sharpe.

Step inside .RE 's new space.

We spoke to Senior Designer Flora Sharpe about this latest project.

'When Compton took over at St John’s Square the building was tired and a little downtrodden. We worked to bring back life to the beautiful heritage features. The building has its quirks; jaunty floors and mis-matched panelling which gives it its glorious charm. The client wanted a scheme that celebrated the buildings history whilst creating an atmosphere more akin to a Mayfair club. We used rich colours in the meeting rooms including of the ceiling. Brass wall and ceiling lights from Gong emit a soft light whilst adding bags of character to the space.

The panelling in the stairwell is enhanced with the two shades of Farrow and Ball green both complimenting the sea grass herringbone carpet that runs throughout the building. Brass stair rods add a reflective surface as you walk your way up. The stairway is lined with beautiful photography of the local area commissioned especially from The Happiness Collective, a real celebration of Clerkenwell today.

We were able to have a lot of fun in the bathrooms, using the clients brand colour of orange we contrasted the rich orange walls with a bright blue diamond chequered floor and traditional Burlington taps and sinks

Farrow and Balls Pavilion Gray never fails for a Georgian building which is the colour we used throughout the office. The original floorboards were sanded back and the new lightness of the timber now gives the space a more contemporary feel. The original brass ironmongery influenced the details with brass linear lights suspended over the bespoke timber desking. To create a little more fun we used a dark green upholstery for the desk chairs." - Flora Sharpe
