Recently we wrote a piece for the Architecture Yearbook 2026 on how we think about place at Mallett.

The best architecture has a clear sense of place and getting there means starting with the variables that make a place what it is: aspect, land use, materiality, the vernacular, the craft. We draw them in early and let them shape everything that follows.

Featured projects: Untouched Forest, Black and Stone, and Soft Grass — all rooted in rural Perthshire, and all still teaching us things we’re now carrying into urban work, including our Grade I Elizabethan refurbishment in west London.
Huge thanks to and editor Rebekah Killigrew. Link to the full read in bio.

Model making as design thinking. Three views of Rusty Oak — crafted by , the physical model captures what drawings can’t: the layering of materials, the interplay of texture, and the logic of construction made tangible.

From cattle shed to contemporary home.

Class Q approval secured at appeal for this agricultural barn conversion in rural Somerset. The design retains the building’s honest working character—the steel frame, the generous volume, the openness to the landscape—while inserting a refined two-storey dwelling within the existing envelope.

Timber cladding and large glazed openings replace the original infill panels, creating a home that feels both rooted in its agricultural past and entirely of its time.
