Before a rotor is a rotor, it is a bar of steel on a bandsaw.

The coolant is doing two jobs: cooling the blade, and flushing chips out
of the cut so the teeth aren’t re-cutting their own swarf. Slow and wet,
the blade lasts. Fast and dry, it goes blunt.

Every piece is cut oversize on purpose. Turn, drill, balance — all of it
takes metal off, none of it puts any back. Cut short and the piece is
scrap.

Bar in, billet out. That’s the whole job.

A machine arrived on a truck this week. It is the least photogenic thing we bought all year.

Companies announce factories — a ribbon, a press release, people in high-vis. What actually changes what a turbine costs is duller: one machine at a time, in a workshop we own and run ourselves, taking one more step of the build in-house.
When somebody else makes your part you pay for four things: the part, their margin, the freight, and the wait. Bringing it in-house removes three of them and shortens the fourth to the same afternoon. That is not strategy, it is arithmetic.
The catch, which we would rather say than have you assume we hadn’t thought about it: a machine only pays for itself if it runs. One that works a day a week is more expensive than buying the part. We buy machinery when the volume is already there, not to look industrial in photographs.

One yellow thunderstorm warning. Two days. By Friday the map was clear again.

That’s weather. It tells you almost nothing about the climate — and anyone selling you something off the back of a single warning should be ignored, us included.
What does tell you something is the Met Office record going back to 1884. 2025 was the warmest year in it. Four of the last five are in the top five. And the decade ran 1.33 °C above 1961–1990.
Then the odd part: winters 13% wetter, and English river flows in summer 2025 the second lowest since 1961. Both true at once. The signal isn’t warmer, or wetter — it’s less predictable.
An El Niño has been declared for 2026. Its effect on Britain is indirect: not a thunderstorm on a Wednesday, but a higher chance of a milder, wetter, windier autumn.
Does a wind turbine fix any of that? No, and we won’t pretend. What it does is narrower: if what’s changing is reliability rather than average, you don’t want a bigger version of one source — you want a second one that fails at different times. Britain’s windy half-year is October to March, exactly when a solar roof gives least.

We are sending wind to a country that runs on water.
A pallet has left for Oamaru, on the North Otago coast. And here’s the honest part: New Zealand already gets 85.5% of its electricity from renewable sources — one of the cleanest grids on earth. A turbine on a roof there doesn’t meaningfully change a carbon number, and we’re not going to pretend it does. If carbon were the only reason to buy one, we’d tell you to spend the money elsewhere.
There’s a better reason. Oamaru sits in the district New Zealand dammed — inland runs the Waitaki, a river carrying eight power stations, with Benmore (1965) still the largest earth-fill dam in the country.
But a grid that runs on water is only as full as the lakes. After a dry May, June and July in 2024, hydro fell to 23,490 GWh — the lowest since 2013 — and the renewable share slipped from 88.1% to 85.5%. Water is a battery the weather refills. Some years it refills it less.
New Zealand’s own answer wasn’t more dams. It was wind: capacity from 691 MW in 2020 to 1,269 MW in 2024, and a record 3,919 GWh generated. A household turbine is that same answer at the scale of one roof.
Before you order one: Oamaru is coastal, and salt finds fixings first. And a windy country is not a windy section — measure your own site through a season. Don’t trust the map, and don’t trust us.

Your solar panels are about to have their worst six months. That is exactly when a turbine starts earning its keep.
Wind and sun keep opposite calendars — and it isn’t a marketing line, it’s meteorology. In the temperate latitudes wind is strongest across October to March, when the temperature contrast between pole and equator is sharpest and the storm track runs hardest. Sunshine does the exact opposite.

Your electricity bill keeps the same calendar as the wind. Lights on at four in the afternoon. Heating working. More hours indoors. So the worst month for a panel is often the biggest month for a bill — and a roof carrying only solar has been built for the cheap half of the year.
A battery doesn’t care which machine filled it. Panels carry the long days; the turbine carries the dark, windy ones. Neither has to be sized for the whole year alone.

The part a seasonal sales post would skip: the months that generate best are the months that load your mounting hardest. October is for going up and checking it, not just enjoying the output.

And before any of it — a windy country is not a windy roof. Measure your own site. Don’t trust the map, and don’t trust us.

For fifty years, wind powered nations. We decided it should power homes.

TESUP is the global leader in household wind energy. Almost a decade of building household wind turbines and semi-flexible solar panels — both halves of a working system, engineered by one company, for one roof, one battery, one family.
The company is young. The engineering is not: our expertise runs back to 1974, through hydroelectric, wind and solar plants totalling more than 1,000 MW installed. We spent fifty years building the large ones, then brought that discipline down to something that fits on a roof.

A boatyard is the hardest customer we get. That is why we like them.

Chantier naval Marée Haute has been at Trégunc, in the Finistère, for more
than twenty years — building Django sailing yachts end to end, and running
the whole service side: mechanics, keels and rudders, composite and timber,
rigging, winter storage.

Three things make that coast interesting to us:

→ Finistère means finis terrae, the end of the earth. Weather arriving there
has crossed the Atlantic without meeting anything first.

→ A yard’s heavy season is autumn to spring — hivernage, carénage,
aérogommage, refits. That is the darkest half of the year, and on the
Breton coast it is also the windiest. The work and the wind peak together.

→ A hull and a turbine blade are the same object: a shape whose only job is
to move through a fluid without wasting energy. They laminate their own
hulls. We cut our own blades. Same reason.

And the honest half, which we would rather write down than have you discover:
salt corrodes our hardware too, a big shed is a big wind shadow, and one
small turbine contributes to a yard’s load — it does not answer it. Measure
the site. Look at what the yard actually draws in February.

Palermo changes the answer every few kilometres.

Two customers in Palermo, five kilometres apart, can buy the same machine
and get completely different results from it. That is not true of most
cities we ship to, and in Palermo the reason is visible from any rooftop.

The city sits on a plain closed in by high ground, with Monte Pellegrino
— 606 metres, the highest point inside the city boundary — shutting the
top of the gulf. It is a very large windbreak, sitting exactly where the
sea breeze would otherwise arrive. Behind it the old city is flat and
packed tight. A turbine on a roof in the middle of that is standing at
the bottom of a bowl.

Then there is the sirocco, off the Sahara, which arrives carrying North
African dust. For a solar panel that is bad news: the haze cuts the light
and the dust settles on the glass. What is easy to miss is that it is
also the strongest wind the island gets.

A panel and a turbine are not twice as reliable. They are unreliable on
different days, which is the part that actually matters.

And Sicily does not have one wind climate, it has dozens. Etna is about
3,403 m at the eastern end of the island; Palermo’s highest ground is a
606 m promontory. The honest unit here is not the island, or even the
city. It is the site.

So, plainly: if your roof is hemmed in on four sides in the old city, do
not buy a turbine from us. Buy the panel. If you are on the coast, on the
slopes, or on a building that stands clear of its neighbours — measure
the site, then talk to us.

Saudi Arabia is a sun country. That is only half a working system.

Everyone selling energy hardware into the Gulf opens with the sun, and
they are right about the sun. What gets skipped is that a panel’s output
and a household’s demand are not the same shape. The gap between those
two curves is where a system either works, or quietly annoys you for the
next ten years.

A panel stops at sunset. It also produces least on exactly the hazy,
dusty days after a haboob has rolled through and everything is running
on stored charge. Wind keeps a different clock — coastal air moves in the
evening as the land cools, and exposed ground often carries a breeze all
night.

A battery does not care which machine filled it. It cares whether
something filled it at four in the morning.

Now the honest half: we are not going to tell you Saudi Arabia is windy
the way the North Sea is windy, because most of the interior is not.
Site matters more there than in almost any market we ship to. A plot near
the Gulf coast, the lip of an escarpment, a roof that clears the roofline
around it — three good propositions. A sheltered courtyard between four
city blocks is not, and no specification sheet fixes that.
