Carbon monoxide (CO) is colourless, odourless and dangerous which is why having alarms installed correctly is so important.
Here’s what you need to know:
📍 Where to install a CO alarm:
✔ In the same room as your boiler, gas fire, or oil appliance
✔ In rooms with solid fuel appliances (log burners, etc.)
✔ On the ceiling at least 300mm from it or high on a wall (at least 15cm from the ceiling)
✔ At least 1–3 metres away from the appliance
✔ NOT right next to windows, doors, or vents
🔄 How often should you test it?
✔ Test weekly when first installed
✔ Test monthly after that
✔ Test after replacing batteries
✔ Replace the unit completely every 5–10 years (check manufacturer guidance)
If you’re unsure whether yours is correctly positioned — or if you don’t have one installed — send us a message. 🦉
Stay warm. Stay safe.
