• Controlling Shrinkage Cracks: As concrete cures and loses moisture, it shrinks and builds internal stress. Saw cuts create deliberate, straight weak points called control joints or relief cuts.
• Guiding Random Cracks: Instead of allowing ugly, jagged cracks to form randomly across a floor, driveway, or patio, the concrete naturally tears along the straight lines of the saw cuts.
• Relieving Stress: Cuts relieve tension caused by temperature changes, friction with the subbase, and load distribution.
• Structural and Utility Openings: Saw cutting is also used to remove damaged sections of a slab, install underground plumbing or wiring, or create openings for new staircases and doorways.
