Another gate makeover completed near Tadley!

Last week we were back out giving this pair of hardwood swing gates some much-needed TLC ahead of winter.

The customer didn't want to replace their existing gates, and with a bit of work, there was no need to!

We removed the gates, had them sandblasted, reoiled and brought back to life. We also carried out some repairs to the gate post, rehung everything and upgraded the automation.

A few repairs, a fresh finish and a modern automation upgrade, and they're looking as good as new!

It's a great reminder that replacing your gates isn't always the answer. Sometimes a little restoration and some well-needed maintenance can make all the difference.

One of the best times to notice whether your gates are working for you… is when the weather isn't.

It's easy to put up with a gate that's a little slow.

Or having to get out of the car to open it.

Or a remote that only works when you're standing in exactly the right place.

Or not having a way to let someone in when you're upstairs.

Then winter arrives. 😂

Something we've noticed with gates this year...

Looking back over the rest of 2026, we've definitely started to notice a bit of a shift in the colours people are choosing for their gates.

Anthracite and black are still hugely popular (and probably aren't going anywhere!), but we're seeing more interest in warmer, softer colours rather than everything being dark grey.

Think warm greys, greige, earthy greens, bronze, natural timber and oak-effect finishes.

And we can see why. They can look really good with brick, stone, rendered houses and mature gardens, without the gate feeling quite so stark.

It seems the trend is becoming less about the gate standing out on its own and more about it working with the whole property and entrance.

We're looking forward to seeing whether this continues into 2027 👀

Something we get asked about quite a lot -
"Are automated gates safe for dogs?"

They can be, but the safety equipment and installation need to be right.

Photocells and other safety devices are there for a reason, and they need to be positioned and working correctly.

If you've got a dog that thinks the front driveway is their personal racetrack, it's particularly important! 😂

It's one of the things we check carefully when we're servicing an automated gate system.

If you're thinking about replacing your gates, one thing I'd recommend is thinking about how you actually use the entrance.

Do you want:
• A remote from the car?
• A keypad for visitors?
• Phone access?
• An intercom?
• Automatic loop entry/exit?
• A separate pedestrian entrance?
• Something that looks discreet rather than overly "techy"?

There's no one setup that's right for every property.

A good system should fit around how you live, rather than making you change how you use your home.
