🧱💧 Rising damp… or bridging plaster?

Plaster or render taken too low can sometimes bridge the damp proof course, allowing moisture to bypass the barrier and travel into the internal finish.

The result? Low-level damp that can easily be mistaken for rising damp. 👀

The team are getting Remmers MB2K installed on yet another property as part of the specified damp proofing works. 👷‍♂️🧱

MB2K is a flexible waterproofing product that can be used as part of a moisture-management system on suitable projects.

But here's something that's important when talking about damp proofing products...

A product is only as good as the diagnosis and specification behind it. 🔍

Before deciding what system a property needs, we need to understand:

🧂 Are salts affecting the existing finishes?
📏 What areas require treatment?
🔍 What preparation is required?
🏡 How will everything be reinstated afterwards?

Jordan’s stripping back the old salt-contaminated plaster from this chimney breast, getting the area properly prepared for the next stage of damp proofing. 💪🏠

When moisture moves through masonry, it can bring salts with it. These salts can remain within the plaster and continue attracting moisture, leaving staining and damaged finishes even after the original damp source has been addressed. 🔍💦

That’s why proper preparation matters. 👌

Gil is completing the final skimming as we move through the reinstatement stages of this job. 👷‍♂️👏

When a larger damp proofing project requires existing plaster and finishes to be removed, treating the underlying moisture problem is only part of the process.

Remedial plastering is particularly important because damp-affected walls can sometimes leave existing finishes deteriorated or contaminated with salts. The correct reinstatement specification therefore forms part of the overall damp treatment.
