Back on site at the care home refurbishment.

This time, taking this area right back to its bare condition 🏚️

Walls and ceilings have been stripped of previous finishes, with patch repairs visible as preparation continues. Openings are now clearer, allowing a better read of the layout and how the space will be reworked.

A necessary stage before any new work can be set out accurately.

What clients usually ask us before starting..

Following on from our last post about what happens before a project even starts, this is usually where the questions come in.

Once we’ve walked the property and talked things through, most clients tend to ask similar things:

👉 How long is it going to take?
👉 What sort of cost are we looking at?
👉 Do we need planning or anything in place first?
👉 And how disruptive is it actually going to be day to day?

All fair questions, and to be honest, the answers aren’t always one-size-fits-all.

A lot of it depends on the property, the scope of work, and what’s already there. That’s why those early conversations matter, so we can give proper answers based on the job, not just general estimates.

It’s always better to talk things through clearly at the start rather than figure it out halfway through.

The part of construction people don’t see…👀

Most people notice the finished space.

Clean walls.
Straight lines.
Everything in place.

What they don’t see is what comes before that.

The prep work.
Opening things up and figuring out what’s actually there.
Fixing what wasn’t done right before.
Making sure everything is level, solid, and ready to take the next stage.

It’s not the most visible part of the job, and it’s definitely not the quickest.

But it’s where the quality really comes from.

Because if this part isn’t done properly, it always shows later… just in ways people don’t expect.

That’s why we take our time with it.

Before anything gets priced or scheduled, the first thing we do is walk the property properly.

Not just a quick look, we’re checking how it’s been built, what’s been done before, and what might affect the job later on. Things like access, structure, levels, existing services… all the bits that don’t show up on a drawing.

Then it’s a conversation.

Understanding what the client actually wants from the space, not just “an extension” or “a refurb”, but how they’re going to use it day to day. That usually shapes the whole approach.

After that, it’s measuring up, thinking through layout options, and working out how the job would actually come together on site.

A lot of that doesn’t get seen, but it’s what makes the difference once work starts.

If that part’s rushed or missed, it normally shows later on.

✅ Installation of new window units to improve light and ventilation within the space.

Openings have been formed and fitted with new frames, providing a clean finish internally while allowing increased natural light into the room. The updated glazing also contributes to improved thermal performance and overall usability of the space.

A quick update from site today… 🏠

Roof stripped back to the rafters, removing all existing tiles and coverings.

A breathable roofing membrane has been installed across all pitches to provide weather protection, with treated timber battens fixed at set centres to establish the correct gauge for tile installation. Detailing around the ridge and abutments has been formed to suit the new roof build-up, preparing the structure for the next stage of tiling works.

A key stage in ensuring the roof performs as intended over the long term.✔️

Update continues on the care home refurbishment.

This stage focuses on forming new internal walls to create en-suite spaces 🧱

Stud partitions have now been installed and boarded, with joints taped to start defining the new layout. Openings are in place, giving a much clearer view of how each room will come together.

At this point, the space really starts to take shape, moving from open structure to something more functional.

A key stage before services and finishing works begin.
