☀️🐄 Ever wondered why the cows get a lie-in when it's this hot?

You might have noticed the weather's been a bit much lately — and it turns out our cows think so too.

This summer's heatwaves have genuinely knocked UK milk production. Nationally, farms delivered around 25 million fewer pints of milk in May and June alone, as cows (much like the rest of us) go off their food and slow right down when temperatures soar. It's one of the biggest heat-related dips in milk supply in almost 20 years.

For us, that means the milk in your glass bottles has had a bit of a bumpier journey to your doorstep this year than usual — and we think that's worth celebrating, not hiding. It's a proper reminder of what "doorstep milk" actually means: real cows, real weather, real farms, not a factory tap that never runs dry.

Our farmers have been feeding winter feed for a few months due to the lack of grass in the fields.

So next time Andrew, Matt, Paul, Aaron or Carl leaves your bottles on the step, spare a thought for the girls in the field. 🐄💦

This year's heatwave and drought have hit dairy farms hard. Cows get heat-stressed just like we do, and that means lower milk yields — down as much as 20% on some farms. Add in scorched pasture that won't grow back after cutting, and farmers are already dipping into winter feed reserves months early, pushing costs up for the rest of the year.

Many local dairies have invested in fans and cooling systems to protect their herds — the right thing to do, but another cost on already tight margins.

We work with small, local dairies, not big industrial operations — so when you choose your milk round over the supermarket shelf, you're backing farmers having a genuinely tough year. 💙

Fancy a few weeks of very early mornings and free afternoons? We're looking for reliable cover for our milk rounds while our regular drivers take holiday.

✔ Early start, home by lunchtime. Or nights if prefered.
✔ Work independently, your own patch for the duration
✔ Friendly, appreciative regular customers
✔ Full training/route ride-along provided
✔ £13.71 per hour (£15 per hour if self-employed)
✔ Dates needed: initially end of August / early September.
